Hi everyone,

I will be flying into BKK from MELbourne in a couple of weeks time and want to enter Thailand with duty free alcahol yet do not want to exceed the 1 litre limit for alcahol. I have never checked out the duty free in MELbourne before but presume the majority of alcahol sold (spirits) are in 1.125 - 1.25 - 1.5 litre bottles.

One would think if the limit for entering Thailand is one litre then the duty free shops would cater. Otherwise what are your thoughts in general about duty free in Suavrubrunami.

Anyone fly from Melbourne, how do the two compare?

Cheers,

Damo.

Flew BKK-HK-BKK recently and found most bottles were 1 liter.

If they have larger sizes in Melbourne, and it'll put you over the limit, don't buy it.

Duty-free shops at the airport do not care what you buy to bring into Thailand. Not sure if they are still selling the Bombay Sapphire Gin at 47pc alcohol (normal strength is 40 pc), but it is illegal to import alcohol over 40 pc into Thailand. So if you get caught it is you that will have to pay the fine. They don't care.

If it's standard fare you're after then the popular brands are readily available at Duty Free on arrivals if you don't want to take a perceived risk of being over the limit.

Thanks for the relies guys,

Yeah standard fare, Johnnie dum, ballantines, simmilar.

I have allways found customs in BKK to be apathaetic, but you never know. Allways possible for someone in duty free to work with a customs officer on the sly and I'm paying tea money.

Is the duty free price (arrivals) the same price as the duty free (departures)?

No, generally the DF inbound is cheaper than the DF outbound but leaving you can get deals on 2 bottles or get freebies with the purchase of more than 1 item which aren't available inbound.

(at least 1 year since I checked the price difference though)

Blimey, except for my first trip 5 years ago, I bring 2 1125mls of woteva takes my fancy in Auckland DF shops.

Neva knew wot the allowance was.

On my first trip I fronted up at customs, they gave me funny looks and waved me on.

Neva bothered what I bring now, sometimes 4 - 5 arrivals at Swampy each year.

Hi kennkate,

Yes u can take liquids onboard, and that too in good amounts, i took around 6 litres of liquid last trip in march onboard, but that liquid has tobe purchased from the DutyFree shops in the departure area. the shop will then seal the bottles in a see through plastic bag.

You can also take in liquids onboard from ur home, but i small quantities o 50mlx2 bottles. thats it.

so if u have a 100ml bottle of shampoo with only, say, 30ml left in it, then they will ask you to dump it. the bottle size has to be of 50ml or less.

i doubt you get deo sprays in 50ml cans, and if u do, i still am not sure if that would be allowed, as that is combustible.

g'day!

A simple if rather general question. Returning from Paris CDG with Air France, would you advize buying standard alcohol (spirits) and scents (standard french brands) at CDG, on the plane or at Suvarnabhumi arrivals? I mean for price - which if similar I prefer to buy at Suvarnabhumi.

CDG?

I can confirm that my preferred champagne Piper Heidsieck Rose Brut Sauvage was dearer at the CDG duty free shop than in my local supermarket.

Forget D.F. at Swampy.

Many shops in CBD better, in my experience.

I mention I am flying out and often get a good bargain.

Airport shops are rip off.
