LeungKen Posted May 31, 2009 Share Posted May 31, 2009 With over 20,00 cases reported in Southern Thailand it appears that this mosquito borne virus is now spreading throughout Phuket with over 349 cases reported already. I already know of one Thai friend who went through agony for 10 days and now a young 5 y.o. friend of the family has been hospitalised. Whilst this doesn't appear to be lethal in most cases (although I believe a week old baby died in Trang last week) it is a very painful complaint. Please be careful. Lives in Nai Harn 3 persons from my Thai neighbours Family in Nai Harn/Sai Yuan area have get chikungunia last week. LeungKen Posted June 1, 2009 Author Share Posted June 1, 2009 This outbreak apparently was first logged back in August last year in the Narathiwat area, I suspect as it happened in the "Southern States" that not a lot of resources and man power was "thrown" at containing this disease, More from the W,H.O. and the Thailand outbreak here :- http://www.searo.who.int/en/Section10/Section2246.htm Not a lot can be done for you once you have contracted this virus, so prevention is the way to go.
