Ourtstanding Credir Cards

A friend has asked me a question that I am not sure of the answer to, so I said I would ask the question on Thai Visa

He and his wife left Thailand 3 years ago to live in Australia, at that time he did not realise she had 5 outstanding credit card debts

As her parents are very sick she wants to return to see them

In Australia this is a civil action where the credit companies must take action in a civil court

Is it the same in Thailand, or can they take out an arrest warrant for her if they can not find her ??

I should have added they want to build a house in Thailand so he wants to pay the credit cards off so they she has a good credit card again

So he will b contacting the companies while in Thailand to make arrangment to pay these cards off

She like a lot of Thai ladies did not under stand the credit system and that she needed to pay becj the cards

He did not have any idea she had these cards

So do gooders who want to change the world need not give their opinions

Having many credit cards is very normal for a Thai girl

As I found out with my wife, when she got a job I made her pay them off herself

I find that a little difficult to believe.

Regardless, if they where to contact the credit cards Co's about repayment, then of course the credit Co.'s will be more than happy to listen. It is likely to be too late that as they will almost certainly have blacklisted here which, if I am correct, is irreversible.

Why would her husband pay off her credit debt is it does not fix her credit rating

?? its a civil matter not a criminal offense. She will not get it arrested. Wait for the do-gooders any minute now.

But if she pays it fine. If she does not - nothing bad will happen.

The black list is there for a reason. That reason being to give future potential loaners to guage the risk of any loan. Being blacklisted does not necessarily mean that she can't get another loan or credit line, but any such agreement will carry a very high premium.

The black list also acts as a deterrent so as to discourage people from faulting. If somebody could just waltz right back after 3 years and simply announce that all is well, well that is not much of a deterrent is it. Furthermore the credit card company cannot reverse the blacklisting even if they wanted, once filed it is out of their hands. It is a record of how people have performed in the past, not how well they are doing now.

Sometime ago my wife and I started to struggle and fell some 6 months behind on our car repayments. We kept in touch with them and they where fine, they knew that our reason was genuine and that we intended to pay. Indeed we caught up on our payments so they got their money, my wife's credit rating was untouched and we even got to keep our car.

The difference is that we kept in touch with them and kept them informed whereas as far as the CC company that your friends wife used, she ran away from the debt with no intention to ever return.

After talking to my wife and many of her friends at the Thai Temple today, it seems many Thai ladies do not understand the credit system as they have never been taught this ever at school or home when they where young

Credit cards are handed out left right and centre, and this is way beyond there abilty to control

In my case I had to teach the wife many things and she pays off her credit card at the end of every month or she has it taken off her till she gets back to $0

So there will be those who blame the girl and those that say the Banks should not hand out credit cards willy nilly

Wasn't this present financial world problem because banks just gave loans to any one that wanted them

No real interest in if they could pay it back or not
