Hi,

My stepson has both a UK and a Thai passport he is 11 now and I need to know if there is an age limit to having 2 passports or dual nationality. I have heard many different opinions on this, that he will need to give 1 up when he gets to 14 or 16. Does anyone know what will actually happen.

We plan to be living in the UK in the next couple of years

Thanks

there is no age restriction.

The law mentions that a child between ages 20 and 21 has the choice of relinquishing his or her Thai nationality, by appplication, which has to be accepted (ie it may be turned down).

However there is no compulsion to do so and no penalty if the child does not.

Many people 'hear' of this clause and misinterpret that it makes in compulsory, it does nothing of the sort. It is merely a window of one year in which they have to opportunity to make the choice.
