35mm Slides To Cd's?

I have about 200 or more old 35mm Slides that I would like tranfered onto CD's... anyone know of where I could have this done, and about what the cost would be???

I know, I could scan each one myself, but thought maybe someplace might be able to do it more cost / time effectively for me...

Hi, you don't mention where you are, but assuming BKK any photo shop that does in-house processing should be able to help, most offer the option of putting your negatives onto Cd when you have a film processed so they have the facility to do slides as well (same hardware just a slightly different process).

Now, as to whether they want to do them, that you will need to ask. Scanning individual slides is more labour intensive than doing negatives that are in a strip, particularly if the slides are very old and somewhat faded as they will require more manual processing adjustment.

If you already have a means of scanning them do a few on 'auto' to see how they come out, if OK you can get your GF to scan them whilst you have a nice cold beer, very cost effective

I know, that is why I would like someone eles to do it... I figure with the low wage rates of Thailand, I should be able to find someone who would do it for a couple of thousand baht or maybe a little more... It would be worth that not having to do it myself...

I use to scan 35mm slides at my work. Some of the better quality flatbed scanners have a 4 slide plastic holder/template, often kept in the top piece. So its easy to scan a few at a time and there is often a setting on the software for 35mm scanning. The quality was good - better than the purspose built Nikon slide scanner I also used to use.

It's true, some flatbed scanners do offer slide scanning kits, but the resolution you get is never as good as from a special slides- / negative- scanner.

My recommendation (if you still need one, as your post is a few days old):

try "Masters" on Phaholyothin Rd. opposite Central LadPrao. It's the first shop in a row of many photo shops there with big yellow signs. I use them a lot for both digital and conventional work (and so do friends who take photography very seriously). They have done a good job scanning some of my slides a while back.

They offer scanning at different resolutions (at different prices, of course). Something like 30Bht/slide @about 1.5kb per file plus CD rings a bell, but I cannot remember exactly. Give them a few of your slides only first to see if you like the result.

If you need a really professional job done, then go to IQ-lab (on Ekkamai and somewhere close to Chong Nongsi Skytrain station). But expect to pay about twice as much.

Flatbed scanners with slide adapters are pretty lousy at scanning slides/film. They just weren't made for it. You need a specialised film/slide scanner to get the best results.

I think I saw a Kodak kiosk in Pantip, near the escalators on the 2nd or 3rd floor, which offered transfers to CD. I'm not sure if they do slides or even if they're still there or not.

I had mine scaned and saved on CD in one shop on Khao San Rd 2-3 years back - I think it has Fuji sighn

yes - on on Phaholyothin Rd. opposite Central LadPrao there are several shops - you can get the by subway and get down on station Phaholyothin (or Phaonyothin in other transliteration ?)
