Has Anyone Flown With Emirates?

Hello to all. I'm flying with Emirates to Bkk in a couple of weeks and their website states hand luggage weight as 7kgs. Does anyone know how flexible they are? I last flew BA and I had 25kgs as hand luggage. They didn't weigh it, just said "as long as it is the correct size and you can lift up into the overheads"!

I would like to bring personal things that I cannot just leave behind in an airport bin! (My cargo luggage is maxxed out at 30kgs already).

I'm online evenings only in UK so can't reply quickly sometimes. Any help from your experiences would be appreciated.

I flew with them today and my suitcase was 30kg's. She asked what was in my carry on bag

and I just said my laptop, but I had other stuff in there aswell. she did not ask to weigh

my carry on. She did put a heavy label on my suitcase.

I have flown Emirates many times and have never had my hand luggage weighed despite it being heavy and quite large. However what I consider as quite large is extremely modest compared with what I have seen some passengers bring on presumably without problem.

Whilst we are in the middle of this recession there were plenty of empty seats on my last flight 3 weeks ago and I doubt they are concerned about weight.

If you're flying from Birmingham they sometimes weigh your hand baggage at the Emirates check-in.

Noodles, TBWG and endure, thank u. I'm flying from Heathrow so if that's where Noodles flew from I might go up to 10kgs. Still won't push it though, it's £35 per kilo for extra weight. They've got a price calculator on their site and I entered 15kgs extra......about £500 if I remember

LOL at my last sentence. Got a calculator on my phone, laptop and in my head!! I actually did their calculator though. Got going home on the brain.

Are you emigrating to LOS,I like to travel as light as possble so a not inconvenenc to one'self and fellow passengers,as far as traveling with emiates they are good full service airline with sometimes value fares. e.g. $701 dollars aust. return from syd.

On two flights I have had my hand luggage weighed once with Emirates. It was a couple of kilos over but they let it go with a warning.

One time I took the sister in law to the airport and she had hand luggage at 12 kilos and they made her transfer some to her hold luggage.

I think the trick is to have a smallish bag and act as though it's not heavy!

Hi songhklasid, emmigrated here 2002, had to go to UK for personal reasons. apetley, you've hit the nail on the head I believe. Smaller bag crammed full and swing it around like it was a bag of tissues! I'm fairly large and fit, think i'll get away with it.

One thing to remember on Emirates 777s, there is an extra row of cattle class seats. 3-4-3

Therefore cabin storage will be at a premium on a full flite.

Guess that could be a reason for some checkin rules being enforced.

Thai and most other airlines have 777s with 3-3-3 seating, one other to my recall is same as Emirates

I carry a laptop bag, and a rather large, not too big and that's it for a month or more in S.E.A.

Always buy toiletries once I arrive, much weight and space saved.

Lite jacket with voluminous pockets is handy too.

Checked baggage allowance

Emirates has increased all weight based checked baggage allowances by 10 kgs, meaning we now have one of the world’s most generous baggage policies. Economy Class customers can now check in 30 kgs, Business Class travellers may take 40 kgs and if you are flying First Class you can travel with 50 kgs of checked baggage. Piece concept routes are not affected.
