‘Condo spies’ undergo training

The Metropolitan Police Bureau will today train its first batch of “condo spies”.

BANGKOK: -- The spies will watch out for illegal activities in high-rise buildings for police.

“We will train them on what to watch out for, how to alert police and tell them about their rewards,” Metropolitan Police Chief Lt-General Pansiri Praphawat said yesterday.

He did not elaborate with details of the reward.

Many residential buildings have become drug depots and scenes of drug-fuelled parties due to the inability of police to patrol private properties without permission from the owners or concrete evidence.

As a result, the Metropolitan Police Bureau launched the condo-spies project in the hope condo residents and security guards would help authorities police these buildings. About

200 people living in high-rise buildings in Bangkok’s Klong Tan district will receive training today.

Police said Klong Tan had been chosen for the pivotal phase of the project because there were more than 200 high-rise buildings and a noticeable level of drug abuse in the area.

“The area is close to Klong Toei port, which makes it a convenient spot to house drug depots,” said Lt-Colonel Chakrit Mongkolsri, Klong Tan police deputy superintendent.

Gees.........what is next ?!

But really, this is not a good idea at all.........this sort of thing is very much open to abuse. What if one of those 'spies' decides to plant some drugs (or illegal guns, etc.) and point the finger at a resident there in the hope of getting a 'reward' ?

Bad idea !

Cheers,

Jem
