Hi, Could anyone recommend a good IFA, Independent Financial Adviser?

I'm based in Hua Hin but can travel to Bangkok.

Or a directory where I can find one?

Or a better section of the forum for this post?

Thanks in advance :)

I bet you do, seeing $$, commission spent before you have made a sale.

Is this the boiler room calling?

Please provide details of your qualifications and experience, please provide details of your last 2 employers, and reasons for leaving.

How much commission will you be making on any sale?

Youre not an ex barrow boy per chance are you?

Please provide details of where your company is located in Bangkok.

I may just pop in for a chat.

i would be very happy to recommend my Financial advisor.

he is a Brit, which may not suit some but it suits me just fine

i like a straightforward talker with no bullshit

he has been over here for over 10 years and has been through the grind to enlightenment with a couple of firms and now has his own company based in Bangkok.

as well as being an all round good guy, he deals with all my stuff, quickly, professionally and honestly.

anyone who might want to get to know him too, please PM me

i have no desire to let the dogs on here tear him to pieces.

haha perhaps seeking out an IFA in that well know financial hub "Thailand"(!?) is'nt a wise move. Look to Singapore, or for "Regulated" advisers with track records in countries that keep close tabs on this kind of thing and have internationally recognised regulators :) for example any IFA/financial co. thats regulated in Thailand is meaningless, as Thai financial regulation is rudimentary at best.

Or perhaps even ask on the forum what you'd like to do, and we can throw some answers at you that you can check out for yourself :D

People should give him a call and see if he would like to buy anything, or send him some mail. :)

I am not an advisor, but I am a trader - and I am looking for one or two new clients to build a working relationship with. I am in Bangkok, would be happy to meet you and visit a little at your convenience. I'd just as soon not post my contact info here but feel free to PM me if you would like to visit more sometime.

Good luck -

You asked a legitimate question albeit it was a slightly naive one also, no fault of yours, you simply didn't know or understand. If you do a search on this site you will see there has been much written on the subject of IFA's in Thailand and most of it is fairly derogatory, hence some of the replies you have received. Previous debates on this subject have shown repeatedly that their is a significant problem that involves the lack of licensing, registration, regulation and enforcement of the financial services industry in Thailand and in particular the fact that so many unqualified IFA's from the West operate here without restraint. In short, any Westerner hoping to gain UK style IFA advice here is highly likely to become cannon fodder and much care should be exercised.

Now, having said those things there are a number of people around the country who do appear to be qualified and provide a good service - such folks seem to be very much in the minority and I certainly wouldn't be prepared to recommend anyone. The only advice I can offer is to repeat my earlier caution, make as a many checks as possible on the person or company you chose and don't be in a rush. For what it's worth I have been through a similar process here in Thailand and concluded that my best approach was to use a UK based IFA where at least some form of safety net does exist. Good luck.

financial advisors are on the same level of real eatate agents and used car salesmen.... probably more so in thailand...

Your local bank can advise on risk free investments, if you want to be a little more adventurous, get yourself a brokerage account and and educate yourself on the www.com

You don't need these muppets to manage your money, more often than not, even the good ones who have a local newspaper column are copy and paste merchants from what they read on Bloomberg..
