Tire Repair (vulcanizing)

Featured Replies

Where to have a tire repaired? (if it has a small leak)

Do places like B-Quick do it?

I suspect they'd only wana sell a new tire, even if your tire has just a small leak from a small nail...

:)

Any place or shop can fix a leak from a nail. You don't even have to vulcanize. A rubber insert would do, also rubber cold patches would work fine.

I do not recommend vulcanizing. The localized heating really hurts the tire and causes the tire to be out of round after awhile because of the change in heat cycle of the tire, the heat where the leak and new rubber is differs from the rest of the tire. Also very difficult to re-balance because of the extra rubber inside.

The only times I would recommend vulcanizing is if you have a very big leak (I had a key in my tire once) or a sidewall nail.

Things have moved on from Vulcanisation with improvements in adhesives. Unfortunetly, I have had a few repairs to my truck tyres with no ploblems.

Usually around 150b a time
