Do YOU live in UDON? In the province I live it is easy to ask the Merchants (usually Thai Chinese) who have children that same age where THEY send their children for school at that age (or any age). There is a government school in our small town for pre-school, meaning before primary school. You are about one digit off in your estimate of a full year costs. As Dave the Dude asked: And you are Where?? As a general rule it is the expatriate salaried executives with an "allowance" for INTERNALTIONAL school fees or very wealthy Thais which might attend schools you mentioned in a different post. My MAID sent her kids to government pre-school in this town, (not her village free pre-school) so it must be very inexpensive.

A real good English tutor doing private lessons can be 200 baht a lesson in Issan. At what age do children attend KUMON in Thailand? Easy for you or your wife to walk into a Kumon location and ask. I first met my step-daughter when she was ten. I suggested to my future wife we take her out of the under funded "Village public school" and see about a recommended private school. I guess I had looked at the web site for a famous International School in Phuket too many times. I kept my mouth shut, the staff pulled out a printed price list for school including uniforms, lunch, sports programs, some lame mandatory insurance, etc... I kept looking for the other 2 zeros at the end. I had the money in my wallet to pay for all fees and one term.

Think hard how much money a bakery shop owner, small restaurant owner or appliance store owner in Thailand will spend to send a 3 year old to school. But you can bet when that child is older that child will be at Kumon and/or have a tutor. Many school teachers in a primary school, Junior High and High school in both public and private schools will offer tutoring arrangements, both at your home or at the school campus.

We live in Udon and we have our son in Pattana Panya...A small new school(starting its 3rd year)..It is the only truly bilingual school in Udon..Their teaching staff is half farang and half Thai...Farangs teach their classes in English and the Thai teachers teach in Thai..

They accept pre-school thru grade 6 currently...

As I said, this is their 3rd year...Last year there was a total of only 25 students with a faculty of about 20...This year, the word is getting out and they have doubled last year in students and increased the staff..

The annual cost is about 30,000 baht plus uniforms, etc...

We are very pleased with the school and the administration..

Could you please give more info about this school: location, telephone number etc. And - preschool: What starting age with farang teachers and learning english (my daughter is only 2 years and 3 months old).

To the OP: There is a much praised Christian school in Udon where they start learning english at the age of three. You will find info about it on 'www.udonmap.com'.

To stoneman:

Could you please comment on this 'http://www.udonmap.com/udonthaniforum/pattana-panya-school-t13679-15.html'.

I would be very grateful - my child is not too happy in the nursery she goes to now - but I need advice before I take her out and change 'routines'.

Thanks.
