No Going Back - Channel 4

Featured Replies

Hi

I am writing to you from a TV production company called Ricochet. We are currently producing the fifth series of No Going Back and I am looking for people who are selling up in the Uk and moving to a new part of the UK or abroad to start a new business venture. I would love to hear from anyone who is doing something along these lines. Please contact me on [email protected]. I hope my posting this does not annoy any regulars on the forum.

hi ..yae have done exactly that as many others have ,,for a fab country ..fab people and better way of life .....from london

If you are looking for clowns or fall-guys, then tap up the TPV....they should be good for a laugh!

No offense to the OP, but I have had experience with journalists before. All the unreputable ones come in the guise of the good ones.

One man came in the guise of the BBC, saying some of his work was aired on the BBC (which it was). He was following up on the writers of famous BBC shows. He found out the writers grown up, gay son was not in contact with the father. The son in question, who I know and is a great guy, appeared in a center spread of a tabloid - "[Father] cuts off gay son from family Millions"

Another went to a temple and purported to be from Reads international news group. Reads apparently owns the Sun UK tabloid - again found a stupid petty angle on one of the supporters whose father was a judge.... Front page a few days later, 90% fabricated. (on a tuesday).

"

Conflict is the essense of Drama
" - can't recall who said that but it's true, and any angle can and will be taken down and used in evidence (of a fabricated story).

Pity is that there are straight reporters, but how can you tell? I made an interview for the BBC radio a few years back, and it was taken completely out of context - using a snippet of a 30 minute interview. It was, in that case, not in bad taste, but no wonder the reporter who had promised to send me a copy of the program, didn't.

Saying that, I assisted with a Chinese documentary recently, and found that they made a lovely job of it. Despite chancing upon some really controversial footage, they actually turned off the cameras.

I wouldn't mind assisting with Channel 4, but... once bitten...

We have been here before.

The UK TV market is saturated with " I sold up my house in Chelmsford and went to live in Spain" Programmes...More recently they have been looking for more 'unusual' locations and 'odder' occupations' .

Most UK TV people looking for a Thai angle really just want sensation....I married a transvestite....even a bar-girl companion might pass 'exotic'.....of course if you were running a go-go or gambling den in Trat, they might even pay you....

I would give them a miss....they will do what they want anyway if C4 has been mad enough to give them some money!! It is just the late night 'UKTV' 'Adult Market' unless it is the pornography of UK house prices...think ...for the price of an ex-council house in Norwich...you can buy a 10Million Baht house in BKK Yuk

This is a very good show on ch4 and its a well known production company so should be fine! :o

I agree dave, a friend of mine Stephan was on the show he gave up being a managment consultant for a life as a forester/crofter he was the show "failure" as it didn't work out for him but he was treated with dignity and care. so if anyone was thiking about have a go and let us know what happens, Tempted myself but my life is a disaster at the moment and it would only make you miserable

Reminds me of the story where the Pope on landing in Vegas was asked by a reporter whether he was going to visit the city's famous brothels during his trip. His Holiness responded saying he wasn't sure whether there were any brothels in Vegas. Next day the headlines read "Pope wants to know if there are any brothels in Vegas". :o

"No Going Back" is one of the less bad examples - I'm choosing my words carefully here - and generally goes out mid-evening...... which is not to say that Channel 4 wouldn't schedule it later if the content turned out to be more "adult". IMHO, you'll find few people in the UK who think that Channel 4 has got more serious in its programme-making in the last 5 years; just the reverse. Frankly, the size of the production company is irrelevant.

Anybody who considers participating in this kind of production needs to keep their eyes wide open and remember one key point: nearly all this strand of programme-making is entertainment first and information only second (if at all).

You will NOT usually have any kind of practical veto about what footage makes it into the final programme and nor usually have any say about what line the commentary will take.

On the plus side, it can generate publicity for a new business and that publicity might be useful - their own business sense should tell those who are considering "volunteering" whether they should take the risk. If you're sure that you'll come out looking good, it's probably worth a punt.

Are you really that sure? :o

right, but you are always promised a veto, and reassured that you will be respected.

I do feel a bit sorry for the OP though, but we have to look at the worst case scenario, which is pretty bad

If they can find the the most astonishing examples of stupid farangs moving to LOS and then getting cleaned out they could devote an entire series to Thailand.

There are so many bizarre examples that you wouldnt know which ones to choose , whether they would want their stupidity aired on UK TV remains to be seen .

Pattaya is a good place to start plenty of totally cleaned out nutters who lost their shirts

, and pants :o

Journalists, especially expat journalists here in Thailand are way down the evolutionary chain in my books, somewhere under a rock in a pool!

I had the pleasure to meet the one that writes for the 'Screws of the World' and the 'Standard'. A complete and utter bar steward and liar!
