Opera Unite - a Web server on the Web browser

With Opera 10, we are introducing a new technology called Opera Unite, radically extending what you are able to do online. Opera Unite harnesses the power of today's fast connections and hardware, allowing all of us to help define the future landscape of the Web, one computer at a time.

I use Opera now.  This is a great Idea but not new.  Have to see how they go about securing it, can we make a user list with passwords.  Its an open door on any OS if not careful.  Some with adsl have great download with vary little upload thats not going to be a vary good server when ten people start to download from your 256k server.  I wonder if it will have a Q.  I don't want to be negitive because I am a Opera user, but I see there may be some problems in the brew.  Just have to wait and test drive it.

edit adding: I see it just today it has already hit the PClinuxOS repos as a package so I ll be testing it soon.

What's good about it? My Internet connection sucks and all I see with the new Opera is a lot of extra junk that makes it slower than Chrome, Safari and Firefox. They went the wrong direction as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, whats the point? Why on earth would I want to run a webserver on my PC?

After reading about it in the link, I think it looks quite interesting with quite a few features.

Will check it out some more.

If you have home videos or other files you want to share with folks, you could do so without having to upload them to an intermediate third party like rapidshare or the like. Not for everybody, but I can see where it could be useful for some people/businesses.

Keep in mind, the is version 1.0 of the concept. As the application matures, it will probably include features to selectively password certain files to just certain users, etc.

Think it is a good thing. There is no need for webspace and the upload isn't needed too.

I tried the photo sharing module in Opera unite over the last few days and found you had to refresh the page about 10 times before the photos would be visible in your browser. Invariably it timed out. Friends I sent the link to gave up after the first try. Looking on the user comments on the Opera website, others had the same problem. I think it's just beta and needs more work. Still the concept is good and should eventually work.

Anyone have any more luck?
