Phuket In June

What is Phuket like in June? Crowd-wise, temperature-wise, and monsoon-wise? I've read varying reports on how much it actually rains in June. Also do many businesses close down during the low season (as they do in Carribean and other touristy places)? Is it worth going in June?

Is the low season going to be extra empty this year?

Thanks!

Phuket in June is hot, cloudy, maybe some rain.

The seas can get pretty rough, but hey, good news if you want to learn new skills: surfing, bodyboarding, etc.

There's plenty to do here:

- Wakeboarding (Kathu cable ski): no where else you can do it this cheap!

1,000 baht for whole day, less for an hour (can't remember the price)

- ATV (all-terrain vehicle)

- Go Karts

- Shameless gawking in Andaman Queen off Soi Bangla in Patong beach

- Seafood lunch in one of the seaside places

- Good Thai massage available islandwide

- Drive 2 hours to Krabi; spend a few days there maybe? (rock climbing, etc.)

Don't get put off by the term 'low season'. It all depends on how much you are expecting from this island. I would say by all means come with no expectations and you'll soon have a great time.

See ya :o

The official start of the rainy season is the 1st May. Sometimes the rain starts in early May, but usually a bit later. The hottest month of the year is April, so during May it is still hot. To answer your question regarding weather in June, it can be variable as it is close to the change from the north-east monsoon to the south-west monsoon. It can be wettish if the rainy season starts early. Or, if the rainy season is late, it can be dry and sunny. Usually though, you will get four or five dry sunny days (maybe a small shower), then a day or so of grey dramatic skies with rain, thunder and lightning. Still pretty hot though. The rains are welcome as it cools things down a bit.

Rainy season is absolutely the best time to visit Phuket. It doesn't really rain in earnest until July - August. The place is quiet, with fewer tourists, prices are down and the island IMHO is at it's most beautiful. Do come. You won't regret it.

If you are into Wakeboarding & Go-karts, then steer well clear of Phuket.

Kathu cable-ski is the worst in Thailand (others in Bang-na, Pattaya & Ratchaburi) have better lakes/equipment & are cheaper.

Best option for wakeboarding is www.air-time.net - 2 proper ski boats & a big lake.

Go-karts in Phuket are very slow - Pattaya is better.

For windy sports (kiteboarding) - Hua-Hin is best

Couldn't agree more with this. As someone who lives here - but does not have to work for a living - seeing coachloads of Japanese tourists escorted by police cars with sirens wailing and lights flashing, does not make me feel like welcoming the next plane load of tourists. So the rainy season is the best - deserted beaches, cooler weather and some sand on the beaches not covered by plastic sunloungers.

Well I am trying to put Phuket into a perspective!

There is only one cable-ski here and I thought it was pretty good for the money. They offered half price to 'regulars' which makes it 500 baht for the whole day.
