Thanks for the GT link. I have been to the webpage and read some. I am still waiting for my activation code, so unfortunately I can not post there.

1) The only driving license I have is a thai driving license. Should that be enough for Laos?

2) I am confused with the friendship bridge. Can or can not cross the border in Nong khai province? I got the greenbook in my name yes.

3) I will be driving from Chiang rai city. I would rather avoid dirt road. Especially during rainy season. Should I go through Thailand via Udon Thani, or would it be ok to go through Laos? I consider both the border crossings in Nan province and chiang khong. As I got a Honda Phantom, I am concerned about the road conditions a bit.

Thanks for the replies in this thread so far.

Potter :)

Gicco,he own's big cycle in udon thani, every 3/4 month's his club go to laos on a run and he inform's me that road's in laos are better then thailand,i presume he mean's main road's,any pic's i have seen road's look great.

Crossing from nong khai i think is normally ok as this is where visa's are issued.

I have also heard you will get the normal tourist visa 30 day's but laos may only issue 7 day for bike, don't know how solid this is but i suggest you look into this more. :)
