Fiction is fine for soap operas and entertainments, but public television needs to represent reality, not wishful thinking. Or as a tool to obscure the opposition point of view Democracy requires that ALL points of view get a valid and relatively equal airing to ALL THE PUBLIC areas and regions, not just the ones politically expedient for one side. Quaint are the wealth of Thaksin/UDD styled websites that usually can't be accessed with a proxy....so why not a periodical that will have a shelf-life of about two issues? But if those calling for 'Democracy' do so with a half baked idea of how it works, and the end goal, then they go along spreading disinformation endlessly. The reality is Democracy was never served in Issan by the Thaksin political machine. because it is made up of most of the same people keeping the people down for so long, just with a little more cash thrown around and an over laying patina of democracy. And while silencing ALL voices with alternate opinions. If the people are not allowed to hear ALL sides of the story, then they are voting blind, and that is NOT democracy. Western style democratic reform has never gone over well in Asia. Just the way it is. Why is it that most Farang-types insist to have such a political philosophy pushed upon these ancient populations. As much as Thaksin scares me for him to be back in power, I don't see him breaking into homes with a crew and leaving forks sticking from womens bellies. Nor tattooing swastikas on his forehead. But doesn't make Thaksin a good person to be in control of a mob or a country. They both have a way of convincing people they are some sort of divinely sent entity, here for their benefit. Manipulative and charismatic to some eyes and ears, yet lacking basic compunction and moral compasses. He's no Manson, but he's not a good choice either. But I understand that it takes time to turn around the brainwashing that has been the product of three years plus, of anti-Thaksin demonization program in the only media you can read. Fortunately the Thai electorate have shown they are more astute, and that is all that matters. Brain-washed Farangs can blow-viate all they want, and I enjoy interacting with them via these posts. I am surprised however by their susceptibility to anti-democracy politics, considering the democratic traditions they have grown up with. By the way, this magazine was conceived and is being published by "friends of Thaksin", and is not an initiative of his. Publishers know the huge readership involved and it is good business. very well stated but wrongly addressed. You shouldn't generalize because not all farangs share the same opinion.
