Hi all

Looking for some advice, I am going to book a flight to Hong Kong with Air Asia. I have a Thai debit card and a UK credit and UK debit card.

I'm thinking that if I put that UK is my 'home country' when I log into Air Asia then I get the UK 'version' of Air Asia which will charge me in GBP to my UK credit card? Guessing that if I use my UK credit card on Thai version of Air Asia I get charged ?

I know I could use my Thai Debit card but funds area bit low at this moment in that account, alos I think you get added` protection if you book with a credit card?

Anyone got any ideas? Would appreciate any advice anyone can give me.

One other thing, anyone been to Macau ? Thinking of flying there as its cheaper than going direct to Hong Kong (even taking into account feery costs). Anything in Macau to see?

Thanks

i think, air asia, in common with many airlines, use the currency of the originating flight, so if it was to be bangkok you would be charged in baht.

sorry cant help with the macau bit

I went to Macau last March, and I thought it was great... There was a lot to see and do. I mostly walked around and looked at the architecture and the old forts they have there...

There are a lot of Casinos and nightlife things as well, similar to Las Vegas.

I flew into Macau from Bangkok, and then took the ferry to Hong Kong and flew from HK back to Bangkok... and there wasn't a big difference in the air fares as I remember.... Macau was also pretty expensive for most things (food, taxis, hotels) so if your idea is to save money I am not sure I would recommend it... but for a 3 day holiday it is a great destination....

If you pay using your UK credit card you will get protection (refund) from your credit card company for unflown segments under the Consumer Credit Act if Air Asia went bust. But such protection does not apply on thai cards.

My understanding is that you need a visa to fly direct to Macau which can be obtained on arrival, but if you fly to HK you get automatic 180 day permission to stay stamp using UK passport and can then travel to Macau from HK without the need for a visa (as now regarded as part of China).
