Weekend Eclipse?

Featured Replies

Hi, My computer homepage is the Microsoft Thai version, and in the news part, it shows symbols for what looks like an eclipse, but my Thai reading skills are non-existent.

Does anyone know if there is some kind of eclipse due this weekend over Thailand, and if so, what time?

Thanks

WeeGB

Not weekend, but mid-week, next Wednesday, 22 July.

Thanks for the link Scubabuddha. According to the news item, it's a partial (up to 60%) eclipse over northern Thailand, on Wednesday 22nd July at around 8:10 am.

Anyone know the safest way to view it? Thanks.

a 60% eclipse is very uninteresting to watch. You can barely tell the difference in the change of daylight it is like a cloud moved in nothing more.

It is also very dangerous because it seems OK to look at the sun, but many people receive serious eye damage from looking at it.

It would be good if there was some information getting out about the dangers. Often the eye damage doesn't show up for years. It's no fun being old and blind.

There are ways to look at an eclipse. Real welding glass (the kind that is so dark you can't normally see through it without a bright light in front) or put a pinhole in a box and look at the image projected at the other side of the box. I have done this, it works. The best view will be on Television.
