SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Iconic anchorman Walter Cronkite has died at age 92, according to media reports late Friday. The New York Times, which had reported in late June that Cronkite was seriously ill with cerebrovascular disease and was "not expected to recuperate," cited a statement from Cronkite's family in reporting his death. Cronkite was the anchor of the CBS Evening News from 1962 to 1981, and was best known for his reporting on the death of John F. Kennedy, the Vietnam War, the space race and the civil rights movement.
