Uk Bank To Kasikorn Bank Transfer

Recommended Posts

Hi,

does anyone know which UK corresponding banks work with the Kasikorn Bank here in Thailand.

Someone recently tried to transfer money from a Nat-West account to be told that they don't do foreign cash transfers...

Thank you,

P.

:))

I used to transfer funds to K Bank from Barclays for years with no problem, and for the past 4 years or so I have been transferring from Abbey International.

All transfers done by telephonic instructions, and always in my account here within 3 days - in fact recent transfers have only taken one day to arrive.

I know that the transfers from Abbey go via the Royal Bank of Scotland, but whether that is a local UK arrangement for Abbey or because RBS is a correspondent bank with Kasikorn, I couldn't say.

Provided you have the full K Bank account number, account name and SWIFT code, any UK bank should be able to transfer the funds. You must go to the international dept.

Are you talking about a Western Union cash type transfer or a transfer of funds from a Uk bank account to a Thai bank account?

Account to account is no problem , just get the SWIFT identity code from your Kasikorn Bank.

Doesn't Nat-West belong to Royal Bank of Scotland?

I would like to hear more details of the type of the money transfer being talked about here.

From the states I have only been able to get money as a Wire Transfer if someone in the US wired it in person at a bank.

I have heard that Citibank has an on line deal that you can Wire money from your Citibank account via the internet. The only hitch here is that you have to be IN the US to set up a Citibank account to use the on demand. on line Wire transfer.

There is the case where you can get a Cash Advance from a credit card directly to your bank account. There is a 3% of the amount charge plus some smal bank fees. This happens immediately. Just give your card to the branch manager and they do it for you and update your bank book.

Of course you have to have a Thailand bank account and that means you have to have a Work Permit to open an account.

I opened my account with Bangkok Bank which didn't require a Work Permit.

Kasikorn requires a Work Permit. I checked on that just today. (I had heard that they didn't require a Permit)

A Thai Siam bank official told me that Bangkok Bank no longer offers Bank Accounts with out a Work Permit but I have not checked out this new information.

This is news if it is true. Hopefully you have been misinformed. Often a bank official doesn't know the rules themselves. If one needs a work permit to open a bank account how would married and retired expats keep the money necessary for their yearly extensions of stay in a Thai bank account?

I believe that it may be necessary to have a work permit to open a checking account, but not a savings account.

Just go to your bank here in Thailand and ask them for their swift address and details for their bank. They probably have a photocopied page with the details. Most of the banks in the UK have telegraphic transfer facilities. Building societies are a bit different.

You give them the following info for Thailand:

Account name:

Account Number:

Bank Name:

Bank Address:

Swift Code:

Amount to be sent:

Currency to be sent: - ( Sent monies in the home currency and get it changed here in Thailand, this is done automatically. You get a better rate - see the exchange rates for TT)

Wouldn't it depend on what bank you have an account with in the UK. Some banks can do this over the phone, others it can be done using the internet. It all comes down to cost from the other end.

Bangkok bank have a UK branch.

You don't need to go into the bank - just do a web search for Thai Bank SWIFT codes and you will find:-

Banks in Thailand

  • <LI style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class=Normal>Bangkok Bank:
http://www.bangkokbank.com SWIFT: BKKBTHBK <LI style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class=Normal>Bank of Ayudhya: http://www.krungsri.com SWIFT: AYUDTHBK <LI style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class=Normal>Bank of Thailand (Centralbank): http://www.bot.or.th <LI style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class=Normal>Citibank: http://www.citibank.co.th SWIFT: CITITHBX <LI style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class=Normal>Government Housing Bank: http://www.ghb.co.th <LI style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class=Normal>Government Savings Bank: http://www.gsb.or.th SWIFT: GSBATHB1 <LI class=Normal>Kasikorn Bank: http://www.kasikornbank.com SWIFT: KASITHBK <LI style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class=Normal>Krung Thai Bank PCL: http://www.ktb.co.th SWIFT: KRTHTHBK <LI style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class=Normal>SIAM CITY BANK: http://www.scib.co.th SWIFT: SITYTHBK <LI style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class=Normal>Siam Commercial Bank: http://www.scb.co.th SWIFT: SICOTHBK <LI style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class=Normal>Thai Military Bank: http://www.tmb.co.th SWIFT: TMBKTHB <LI style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify" class=Normal>Thanachart Bank: https://www.thanachartbank.co.th SWIFT: THBKTHBK
UOB United Overseas Bank: http://www.uob.co.th SWIFT: BKASTHBK

Thai banks do not have an IBAN identification number. You should therefore indicate the SWIFT code of the respective bank for transactions.

NOTE-

Most UK remitting banks will ask for a 'reason for transfer'. Nationwide insist on it, Halifax have a drop down menu with adozen options (could not fing "Girlfriend over-spent this month :) "

I doubt that any UK bank will process a SWIFT transfer over the phone - unless you have a long-standing relationship with a named individual.

The subject of farangs opening accounts in Thailand without work permits has been done to death.

You just have to shop around. Some branches will, some won't. I suspect the letter of the law is that you need a work permit, but there are dozens of branches who are prepared to bend the rules.

I have accounts at K Bank and Siam Commercial Bank - opening both couldn't have been easier, and Siam Commercial Bank was only last year, so it's not although anything has changed recently.

I have been told that for so many things here you need a work permit (like a contract mobile phone account), yet I have managed to do everything, yet I haven't held a work permit in Thailand since around 1983. Don't take no for an answer - and come armed with proof of residence - maybe your "yellow Book" or the wife's Tabian Bahn.

I even have a Thai credit card (which they say is impossible), but did fail to get a checking account.

Once you have a Thai bank account, transferring funds from the west, using a SWIFT transfer is a piece of cake.
