guys just a question.

i dont do any torrents etc, but i do play online games.

i just get my maxnet connection. i know people complain, but i have around 1.5mb local and 1.5 mbit international here, depends a little on peak hours. maybe there are not many people connected this side of the city.

only problem, i cant seem to connect to any online games. does anyone know if maxnet blocked these?

Make sure everything is forwarded and check firewall set up modem sometimes have firewall also.  No need to block games they really don't need mass bandwidth they need low ping some can even run over as little a 56k connection.

Pfff... maybe this Maxnet is only making me really paranoid, but in last few days I have been thinking this same. My main income comes from online poker, but with this Madnet I cannot even connect any poker server or if I can connection is not stable at all. :) Unable to play anything. I'm going to upgrade my Indy (4/0.5) package to premium tomorrow, but of course it would be nice to hear before it if there is more rumors that this kind of blocking is true...

Same connection problems with me. All was fine until about 2 weeks ago and now it drops out every other minute!! I don't think that they have blocked it, but the problem is the same as all other Maxnet international connections --- CR#P..........

Unlikely that it's being blocked since the OP says he can connect sometimes. More likely something wrong in between.

Agree with you.

Maybe a few are blocked - who knows... but a try to block all its like to tilt at windmills.

That kind of gaming in Thailand is blocked its not legal here.

Like said before, only half of this is true. Every kind of gambling is illegal in Thailand that's true, but online poker sites aren't any near blocked, even though some of the Asian sports betting sites are.

And no, I don't really believe at all that even Madnet is blocking anything, but I'm just so frustrated atm how bad their connections are. :)

Its the needle in the hay stack thing I guess.  Just can't block everything all the time.  I do believe if they happen across it they would add it to the blocks.  Hope it works for ya as long as it can.   Hope its just a temp connection problem.  I love poker but I don't trust online games for real money anyway.  PS just because they have not blocked it won't make it legal.  Good Luck.

No problem here with any online poker services on loxinfo. I also make a few quid from from this monthly - pays the rent :)

atm i am just playing some simple games like granado espada and pangya.

both of them don't need any port forwarding.

i disabled my router's firewall and made exemption on the windows xp firewall

yet i still can't connect, its really weird.

i will be calling maxnet soon to complain about it, or does anyone has a solution?

Overlooking some significant slowdowns and other problems that MaxNet users (both Indy and Premier) have been having for the past few weeks, as that's the subject of myriad other threads here in the forum, have you tried using a VPN to see if you can play the game unfettered that way?

I need to regularly (often daily) connect to my employer's mainframe computer through a proprietary interface which MaxNet recently seems to have blocked. I went through weeks of agony and attempted jumps through hoops, but once I downloaded a free VPN and installed it, I've had no problems.

I was also having occasional problems sending e-mails through my own choice of SMTP servers. Once I connect to the VPN, all of my e-mails go through without a hitch.

The VPN I use is "Hotspot Shield" from http://anchorfree.com

It's worth a try. Download the installation software, set a Windows restore point, install the VPN software, connect, and see if it helps. If not, just roll back to the restore point and chalk it up as a learning experience.

i still have my TOT line as well, but i cant get a higher speed on it (the phoneline is over 20 years old) and they dont have any planning to change it.

My games work on TOT meaning maxnet does something to their line.

Games dont work, programs like steam dont work and online streams also dont work.

It does not allow me to connect to a server i presume.

Besides this, i dont understand what everybody complains about the connection speed.

i ahve the following

Domestic = 2.5 mb flat the whole day

Singapore 1.8 mb during peak hours 18:30 - 21:00

Sanfransisco = 1.4 mb during peak hours 18:30 - 21:00

Amsterdam is the only one that sucks 400 - 600 kb during peak hours 18:30 - 21:00

So for me thats quite good for 590 THB

talked to an engineer of maxnet on the phone, they upgraded my package to premier to check if i could play with that.

And yes i could, so they said it was because the speed of indy is to slow in international lines so you cannot play international games.

So I told them bullshit, cause games only need 256 kb anyway to run, and now i cant even connect.

After a couple of minutes he switched back to indy but he left something open so i could play games.

It all worked but abnormally slow, the server is in singapore and when i test speedtest.net to singapore i get 1.5 mb but the game runs so slow that gaming is impossible.

Today i found out that the game is blocked again. I will call them one more time tomorrow and if they dont fix it i will switch back to my 256kb ToT line, it is slow but at least they did not block a single thing.

I have to agree that 'something' is going on with Indy and gaming. Just from my own experience (spelt out in Maxnet lastest problems: maxnet answer: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Maxnet-Lates...sw-t277836.html) ..my switch to TOT today has now been great.

My games (unmentioned for reasons you can probably imagine) are now no problem to play on TOT platinum. Up to 20/6/09 no prob on Indy ..and then a big prob, as in no connection at all, except in the wee hours of the night (1.30am to around 9.30am).

I just dunno and all those 1103 calls at the end of the day made no impact. Is it just maybe 'an upgrade ruse?' ....I really am lost with it now, but glad to be out of the maxnet loop once and for all .....normality has returned thanks to TOT :)

maxnet is super fast for me and never have any problems surfing the internet, but games and any other service that needs to make direct connection to a server (torrents, etc) wont be able to connect.

It is weird that i have a download speed of over 1mb to singapore, but the game server there cant be connected too.

the only reason i dont want to go back to ToT is that the lines around my house are so dam_n old, and when i asked to upgrade my package from 256kb to 2 mb they would not do it, as they sad you have old telephone lines in your area so the upgrade is no use, you won't get that speed anyway.

They said they will upgrade the lines end of this year :S

Trues has some nice promotions now in my area, but that means signing up for a phone line from them, another 1500 thb through the drain, so not willing to do that as well :S

will see what maxnet will do for me today, if they dont wanna fix it i cancel the contract, i forgot to cancel my tot so i can just switch over.

Nice find :D

I normally pay for a vpn that I need to use for maybe just a few short hours each month but now this little jem works a treat for what I need.

The first page you try to load redirects to one of their ads but after that all you get is a flash banner at the the top of each page, which you can close. Other than that its a :)

I only occasionally get those banners, maybe once every couple days. I never get a redirect except when the IP address can't be resolved, then it throws up its own page of results (similar to how OpenDNS does). Interesting how it works differently for the two of us!

Partial mystery solved: I use Opera as my primary browser with Flash turned off, which is why I don't see banners often. I just used IE for some sites that require it, and got the banner ads. Also got a redirect page on IE, but not sure why I don't get it with Opera.
