Getting Married - Just Had Divorced

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Myself and my partner are finally planning to get maried after being together for 3 years.

We are currently expecting our first baby which is due end of September.

We have been living together in Hong Kong, but my partner has returned to Thailand to get some rest and get ready to give birth. I'm planning on heading out 2 weeks before due date and we were going to get married before the bundle of joy comes along!

All sounds simple BUT my partner has only just had her divorce through. As she was married in Hong Kong it has taken a year to get the final divorce. Reading the Thai in UK website I came across the following;

A widow or divorce will be permitted to remarry not less than 310 days after the previous marriage has expired, unless

  1. Has given birth to a child.
  2. Remarrying the same person.
  3. Not pregnant, as certified by doctor. (in case of early remarriage)
  4. Approval to remarry from a court is obtained.

IS this true? Can we not get married while partner is pregnant?

..However can we get married as soon as the baby is born?

Anyone got any experience of this? Any help apprieciated?

(If it's true we would have gotten married in Hong Kong, but now she is advised not to fly becasue of lateness in pregnancy.)

Thanks!

From what I know ... after divorce

have to wait 310 days or have a letter from the doctor confirm that your GF >>>> "Not pregnant" (can ask the doctor to do + pay some money)
