Thaksin's " Big Surprise " Still A Secret

im taking a guess but I think he will be unveiling some type of 'education package' of which the scholarships and tv tutoring are just 2 parts.

he got it right with the 30 baht health care scheme. that was a winner in terms of his popularity. now i think he is putting his focus on education.

if he does go down this path, there will be a lot of winners (no one can argue with better education, we all know its needed). there will still be a lot of moaners though.

Agreed, so can you start using capitals at the beginning of your sentences? :)

As for the rest of it, it's all political spin, without any real intent to actually make things better for the majority of Thais in the long term.

ill start using caps if u stop with the lame wisecracks. 4 on page 1... then this post, not much in it really.

I've got a better idea, howbout you rack off with this mindless claptrap rubbish that you sprout off all the time. Many of the people here are well educated and far from stupid and quite frankly I think they see right through all your rubbish about this individual. Perhaps you should go and plat ur own shitt or something constructive.

6,000 scholarships is nothing compared to extended free milk and such

for ALL Thai children in ALL grades.

I remember his LAST scholarship give out.

One semi HiSO kid gets listed,

and children of his cronies get day trips to the soccor matches.

Very educational. Thaksin teaching sportsmanship right?

Almost NOTHING, except saying he is doing it, is on record.

Sam Moon at his finest 'propaganda apprarachic' best.

Where is the never to be forgotten Sam Moon these days?

Where is the Thaksin Saves Asia Foundation? Only a website still?

Apparently. Last was a single blog entry he made in February.

No Board of Directors for the Foundation appointed yet.

No sign of any movement to develop the Foundation.

Still listing Sam Moon as the solitary employee of this great movement and undertaking to:

"The Building a Better Future Foundation aims to contribute significantly to the quality of life in Asia by identifying and nurturing the next generation of Asia talent."

http://www.buildingbetterfuture.org/advisors/sam-moon

Just another Thaksin hot-air scam... but then again, he's been busy escalating hate and turmoil in his homeland for the past 6 months and that's been more pressing an issue for him to deal with, so this complete flop of nonsense he spouted about earlier is understandable.

Too right SJ, More rubbish and claptrap from moronic individuals that should know better.

He urged Thaksin to stop any movements that could create hostility in Thailand. He gave an analogy that if the head stops moving, the tail will too, and then peace can be restored.

Best statement yet.

This is what it all boils down to.

Thaksin has every right to challenge the continuing involvement of the Privy Council and the Military in Thai politics.

Well spoken Oberkommando. At least you are not part of the orchestra. I notice most other Posters are playing their instruments using the same song sheet, provided by the English language media:

".....unveiled by FUGITIVE politician....." Yes, their obligatory fugutive word again. I wonder of there will be more in this article.

"...popularity had risen after his visit to Buri Ram..." How juvenile is that! The "Iran style basijl miltia" protection for him was impressive!

"New Politics party secretary....." Quote your anti-democratic friends and expose yourself. keep it up. I love it. All that new politics!

"....Govt. did not feel it was necessary...watch B'day celebrations by Red Shirts" I'm sure they dont. This is all a huge embarrassment for them. I mean, what with that new Buri Ram popularity and all. Plus that bothersome petition well over one million signatories, in the face of all that Buri ram popularity. At no time in Thailand's history has the birthday of a Prime Minister engendered such clebrations NATION WIDE. The celebrations have already begun in some major regional centers last night("O, I'm sorry, your sole-source English language media hasn't told you?). They will continue, culminating with the huge one in BKK on the 26th. I'm sure your agenized English media will keep you informed....I'm sure...Really!.... And make sure to just call them the "Red Shirts". Heaven forbid, we would not want anyone to think they are Pro-democracy Red Shirts. Somebody may think there is a struggle for Democracy in Thailand.

"The FUGITIVE former prime Minister...." Aha! voila! This reporter managed it twice. Awright!

Keep playing those instruments in harmony you Farangs. It sounds so sweet and so compromised.

Well Khun Thai, you don't have to like it - there are other Farangs (as you say) who so support your dear leader. It's just that not everyone has a sheep like mentality in following either one or the other. As much as you may not like it, there are a significant number of Farangs/Aliens here who are working and paying taxes, so don't see no reason why we can't comment on what is going on. You might not like it Khun Thai, but it's called freedom of speech, whereby accepting that all public figures are open to criticism. I can't recall that Thaksin was ever an upholder of freedom of speech when it didn't suit him, or maybe I was mistaken.

At the moment, the country is in stalemate, as all the greedy politicians edge to get there noses in the trough, without giving a <deleted> about the majority of Thai's - that goes for all sides concerned.

Again, thank for letting the deprived Thai citizens to understand the deep hatred among foreigner (mostly living in Thailand) toward Taksin, the only elected PM ever to survive a full term in the wretch 70+ years since Thailand proclaimed itself as a 'Democracy'.

IMHO, i think it's very important to look back at the political history in the last 70+ years before making hard serious judgements/statements on Thai politics.

- I bet you do not care about how many appointed PMs Thailand has had so far.

- I bet you do not care about how many elected PMs Thailand has had so far.

- I bet you do not care about the fates of each of every single elected PMs Thailand has had so far.

- I bet you do not care about the 60-years history of the oldest political party still surviving and active. The Democratic Party.

- I bet you do not track what has-had happen to all generals who staged the coups and had been granted immunities and awared.

My personal assessment from the local native POV is from analysis on comments in almost all the past news clippings here pertaining to Thai politics.

Speaker removes his mask to reveal that it really IS Thaksin!!!!!

Place erupts, Police/Army etc cant capture him because everyone looks like him with their masks on, Thaksin escapes back to Fiji or wherever!

Just a thought.

Please stay deaf on accusations against the clean Democratic Party, as they are all Taksin's conspirations.

Do yourself a favor by reveal you deep hatred against Taksin in the Thai public, since you seemed to be extremely passionate so. In regard with Thai politics, stay truth/don't lie to yourself wherever you are, both on Internet and in real life.

BKK Post reporting on a campaign going around Thai cyberspace to wear black on Sunday in protest against the birthday celebrations. Will be interesting to see how much this is picked up on.

Wear black campaign under way

Writer: Veera Prateepchaikul

Published: 23/07/2009 at 02:42 PM

As supporters of exiled former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra are busily preparing celebrations for his 60th birthday this Sunday, a campaign has started in cyberspace for people to wear black on that day as a gesture of protest against the celebrations.

The campaign was started by a twitter message. It's not known who started it, but it has spread like wild fire in cyberspace.

"Thaksin has every right to challenge the continuing involvement of the Privy Council and the Military in Thai politics."

No he doesn't. The rest of us can, but a convicted and corrupt fugitive has no right to cause such trouble to this country and its revered monarchy. He signed away his rights with all the corrupt deals he made.

Never bothered him one bit, when HE wasn't the target.

Well, there are no coups, the government is not blocked from doing its job, and the situation appears to be stable.

Reds have tried to create havoc and destabilise the government but the didn't succede and there's near zero chance of repeating their April performance.

What would happen if Thaksin was suddenly re-installed, breaking all the laws and rules and over opposition from the military, elites, middle classes, PAD etc etc?

That would be a nightmare.

I think it's really easy to decide which government would be better for Thailand at this point.

I disagree with you totally. In fact Thai people has never forgotten Thaksin, especially people who has received or benifit from many good things he has done for the country.

The longer Abhisit is in, the clearer people can see who is the better priminister. Did you think that Abhisit's visit to Burirum was a success? With nearly 5,000 police and army protecting him against 500 protester, what a pathetic!!!. :)

Thaksin's 'big surprise' still a secret

Thaksin's Shinawatra's legal aide Noppadon Pattama claims he has no information at all about the "big surprise" which will supposedly be unveiled by the fugitive politican on his 60th birthday this Sunday. The plans to give scholarships to students and hired tutors to teach Thai students over the People's Television station were unlikely to be the big surprise, Noppadon said on Thursday.

He had asked members of Thaksin's team overseas, Thaksin's classmate General Sumeth Phomanee, Thaksin's cousin General Chaisit Shinawatra, and Thaksin's younger sister, Yaowaret Wongsawat, but they all said they had no idea what it was. Puea Thai Party MP for Samut Prakarn Pracha Prasopdee said on Tuesday that Thaksin would make a big announcement on July 26, his 60th birthday, that would be a surprise for the Democrat-led government.

The former prime minister had announced his plans for a big surprise because he was afraid that the people would forget him now that Prime Minister Abhist Vejjajiva's popularity had risen after his visit to Buriram. New Politics Party Secretary-General Suriyasai Katasila predicted Thaksin would take the opportunity on his birthday to declare that he would cease his political activity after leaders of the pro-Thaksin United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship submit their petition seeking a Royal Pardon for him.

Rowena, if thaksin actually said this :

'The former prime minister had announced his plans for a big surprise because he was afraid that the people would forget him now that Prime Minister Abhist Vejjajiva's popularity had risen after his visit to Buriram.'

then it is Thaksin who feels it was a success, feels his power threatened and has subsequently been moved to launch a big surprise for the people

how you interpret the success of the visit and the protection Abhisit needed doesn't really matter

Thaksin felt threatened by it and as you seem to support him, shouldn't you tow the official line of the big red boss?

The 'Big Suprises' will be that those 6,000 students that were granted the scholarship will also be automatically granted PR status on Republic island of square face.

On top of that the 'Help Asia foundation' will also built the tallest building in the world on that island.

And he will also announce his new marriage and unveil the new Mrs T. :D

Mother of all Suprises will be that he has sucessfully changed his shape of his face to oval.

Showing to the whole world his new look on his 60th birthday!

I am looking for a black outfit to wear on 26th July :)

Actually those 500 protesters were held at bay by Blue Shirts,

and the Red Shirts apologized for invading Buri Ram to cause trouble.

Considering the levels of violence historically done by the minority Red Shirt mobs,

it was prudent to guard Abhisit well. As ANY politician would be when going into

potential hostile areas. Not that ALL persons in thatb area are hostile towards him.

But enough VIOLENT ones are to take precautions It was a success,

but not for you because you only want Thaksin back,

not what is CURRENTLY best for Thailand.

As to what Thaksin may have done in the past, 3+ years past, may or may not be true,

you are living in the past and not looking towards the future.

What he has done for the country recently is foment insurrection and street violence.

And create the greatest divide this country has ever seen. After he stole from all

the THAI PEOPLE via policy corruption and the worst levels of cronyism.

The longer Abhisit is in, the clearer it becomes to many people, that he is on the job,

and moving forward in spite of great masses of problems invcluding an world economic collapse.

He is doing not just talking. And raising 43 million baht to PTPs 12 mil.

Well you come in with a scathing first post, wearing your heart on your sleeve.

Obviously the only reason your joined was to defend Thaksin against the dastardly farang harangs.

Too bad your passion isn't coupled with open mindedness, and logical extrapolation from todays facts,

rather than solely from wishful thinking about days gone bye.

I used to like Thaksin, but his own words and actions turned that around...

not the media commentators, but his OWN QUOTES AND DEEDS.

Can you explain why so many farangs dislike him? Why is this so?

Do you think we are ALL too stupid to have our own minds

and are ONLY lead around by some "English language media'?

Of course, Thaksin inspires many poor and rural Thais and things were clearly better when he was in power, though I don't think Abhisit is completely to blame for that. Being a social liberal, I find that Thaksin is clearly more palatable than the yellower more rightist elite alternative. It would be nice if someone else had the power to oppose this evil elite machine, but for now there's only Thaksin. Bring him on!

but not for you because you only want Thaksin back,

not what is CURRENTLY best for Thailand.

"Can you explain why so many Farangs dislike him?".....Hmmmm, let me think......Animatic is in the Bassoon section I think. Gotta make sure I spell that right, and make sure I have that song sheet right side up!
