'Chonburi Tourist Visa' to encourage visitors to east coast

CHONBURI: -- Thailand's eastern province of Chonburi, home of the famous seaside resort of Pattaya, today launched a province-wide 'tourist visa' giving discounts to over 20 visitor attractions, restaurants and hotels.

The launch follows the formation of a local network of tourism-related businesses, which have agreed to work together with each other and with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) to exchange ideas on marketing.

Mr. Phichai Sonchaeng, head of the Chonburi Tourist Destination Association, said that holders of the 'visa' would be entitled to a 10 percent discount on entrance fees to 22 attractions in the province, including Khao Khiew Open Zoo, the Sri Racha Tiger Farm, the Pattaya-based transvestite cabaret show Tiffanies and the Pattaya Crocodile Farm.

The 'visa' can also be used to gain 40-60 percent discounts at participating hotels and restaurants.

The scheme was initially launched last year, when 12,000 'visas' were given away.

Today's launch represents the second phase of the scheme.

The 'visa' can also be used to gain 40-60 percent discounts at participating hotels and restaurants.

Hotels that could probably be booked at a deeper discount, on any day of the week, through an agency. These amazing discount schemes don't often work out to offer much of a real savings.
