Some Sites Won't Load

Featured Replies

I'm running FF3.5 and IE 6 with a TOT connection. Some sites simply won't load - they keep trying until I get a timed out message. Halifax online banking was one of them I posted about on here a while back but there are plenty of others with no common element except they are all based outside of Thailand. Here's one: www.redferret.net, a popular technology blog that I can't reach by any route. Why should this be?

I've tried:

Updating Firefox

Clearing cache and cookies

Using Open DNS and an alternative

Resetting the modem to factory defaults

Different computer

Different browser

Banging my head against the wall and screaming

all to no avail (well, the last brought the neighbours running to see what this crazy farang was up to).

Also, many sites including Thai Visa never seem to stop loading - according to the indicator on the Tab. Any ideas much appreciated.

Probably just an extremely crap TOT connection that's too slow to allow you to do anything. I use TOT and FF3.5 just looked at the Red Ferret site - loads very quickly.

Try dialing up instead of ADSL and see if that works - if so then you know there's something up with your connection for sure.

Thaivisa site always loads fine, some like bahtsold.com always continue loading and I never get a 'Done' message I guess this is something to do with the ads on the site rather than internet connection though.

you should visit TOT office in person! That complain will not work if you call them!!! The origin of this lies within their responsibility. Its not your PC. Try it with another provider (if you have the chance).

The site you mention above opens within seconds (I am using CSloxinfo). So it is not a server site issue but a provider issue!

It's not a speed issue - I have a download running at 250+ at the moment and the sites I can access come up as fast as I would expect. I agree about the ads though, that might be the cause of the constant loading.

Try adjusting the MTU Packet size setting in your router. This solved the problem for me.

Google MTU packet size to find out how to find the optimal setting. One suggestion is here: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/695

I had this exact problem very recently, and like you posted here. In the end a friend recommended installing and running an anti-virus product. I did this and for the first time ever (for me) a trojan virus was found amongst many other safety issues. After the program removed or dealt with them everything is back to normal. Previously I was unable to open many pages and others took an inordinate length of time to open. The link to the free software is here. After installation the scan took almost three hours to complete. Try it.

Thanks for the thought but I already run three anti malware products and none report issues. By the way, if you were working online without any protection as the number of posts in your profile suggests, I hope you've changed all your passwords and other security arrangements since finding your computer was riddled with nasties.

MTU - I'm trying this to see if it makes a difference.

No I haven't but now you suggest it I think I will.

Thanks
