Thailand Football In Turmoil

I knew T should have bought Liverpool to increase Thai's prowness on the football field:

BANGKOK - Ex-German international Siegfried Held has been replaced as head coach of Thailand after less than six months in the job.

The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) have appointed Charnwit Polcheewin as coach, the fifth person to hold the post in the last 16 months.

A big question mark was placed over Held's future after defending champions Thailand failed to reach the knock-out stages of the Tiger Cup last December.

But he seemed to have survived the axe and recently named a provisional squad for the SEA Games in Manila in November.

The FAT stopped short of saying that Held, who reportedly has a contract until April, had been sacked. In a flashback to the ouster of Peter Withe 16 months ago, they used the word 'suspended'.

The 62-year-old Held was caught off guard by the sudden development and said that he would speak to FAT general secretary Worawi Makudi before making any comment on his future.

Held took over from Chatchai Paholpat who resigned after Thailand's 4-1 away loss to DPR Korea in a World Cup qualifier last September. He had taken the team to the Asian Cup finals after replacing Carlos Roberto de Carvalho, who quit after the 4-1 home loss to DPR Korea last June.

The Brazilian had picked up the reins from Withe, now national coach of Indonesia, who was forced out after five years in the job when the under-23 side failed to qualify for the Athens Olympics.

Charnwit has previously coached the Thai under-20 side and the women's team.

Thailand have targeted a successful defence of the SEA Games title to restore faith in local football after the dismal Tiger Cup campaign.

The team has not been the same since the departure of Peter Withe. From what i understand he was much happier in a tracksuit and coaching as opposed to brown nosing with the officials.

The powers that be also thought that Thailand should play in a similar way to Brazil rather than a more English style.

Somebody got in wrong.

Bottom line is win matches.

Lets see what transpires in Manila. My life savings are not on Thailand

Its a matter of time before this thai coach gets the sack.

They must be moaning about Peter Withe's departure now, but who cares since its them who made him a scapegoat for the team's failure and dismissed him in the first place.
