Offshore Account Advice

Featured Replies

Which offshore account do you guys recommend?

I from the UK (living in LOS) and have currently have a HSBC offshore account in HK but the interest rates are just appalling, would I be better off opening an offshore account with somebody like Alliance and Leicester or Allied Irish as they seem to offer pretty decent rates (though would be a EUR or GBP account I guess?) or are there better options?

The one year fixed rate at the Bank of Scotland International is not too bad at 3.10 pc (over 50,000 GBP).

Open in the Isle of Man for depositor protection (as opposed to the Guernsey branch).

if you want access to your money, the email accounts at Alliance and Leicester, and Bradford and Bingley offer 2.79 and 2.5 pc respectively. but of course are owned by Banco Santander.

The rates at Anglo-Irish have dropped a fair bit recently, so whether that means the bank is in a more secure position I do not know.

If you want high interest rates these days you have to accept the risks of bank failures.

For comparison of all offshore rates go to:

Lloyds TSB offshore are offering 2.52%
