Tricks of the ToT

I learned something new that may or may not be of use to you or fellow readers.

I subscribe to ToT's ADSL Internet service and everything was okay for about 3 months when I suddenly started to have connection problems just like many who have previously written in to Database.

Each time my wife would get on the phone and call the main office in Klongae, and a service tech would come out, fiddle with some wires and cables and finally say we were good to go. The problem being sometimes it would take him days to get here. He came so often my wife knew him by his first name and would give him some of our homegrown veggies and fruit to take home to his wife.

Then I developed a problem with my computer and had to take it in to the local repairman who fixed the problem and then delivered my computer to our house. I was trying it out with the repairman looking over my shoulder, when I clicked the "on" button on my ADSL router, trying to get on the Internet, and lo and behold my ADSL light kept blinking and I couldn't connect.

"Mam! Call the ToT guy!" I shouted. My wife explained our ongoing problem to the repairman in Thai.

"Mai pen rai," he said, as he picked up the handset of our home phone, listened for a dial tone, waited until it turned to a busy signal, hung up and repeated the procedure 3 times. Voila! We had a connection!

He told us it was a clever little trick that most people don't know about and which the techs at ToT won't divulge. It works like a charm and we haven't had to ever call ToT again.

Database replies: Thanks for taking the time to write a very interesting anecdote with a fascinating ending. I have never heard of this trick with the phone before, but I'm sure a lot of readers will be rushing to try it out when we publish your letter, and let us know if it works for them.

Is this of any help to ToT ADSL users?

this trick is useful when the line is a very very old one, my next door neighbour has adsl and i used to use theirs before i got my line put in

their phone line was about 10 years old and always had connection problems i used to do the trick but told them they needed to get ToT to replace the line

they did this and have never had a connection problem again

my new line has never had a connection problem (apart when things are really messed up)

Thats like a PBX defibrillator shot - wreaks havoc with the exchange, but works.

Yes - a quick burst of 220V AC mains might do the trick too.

PS. Disconnect all your stuff first, of course.

PPS. I take no responsibility whatsoever for anything.
