Wireless Router

Featured Replies

Hi

I need a new wireless router, which one is the best i can get here in Thailand, thanks.

Many, many routers sold in Thailand (like the rest of the world). Recommend you decide on a couple of routers you would like buy/meets your requirements and then go find them in stores around Thailand. Most routers are manufactured in the Far East; so most will also be sold in Thailand, although you may have to look at numerous stores to find the model(s) you want.

Linksys and Dlink are probably the most well known. If you have TRUE, best to buy true router as they make setup a bit aggravating if you don't. Thats what I did. Unless you are a hacker, which i am not. BUT I have had many routers.

I think I paid about 1100 baht, Dlink and Linksys a bit cheaper.

do you need a router ? or do you need a wireless access point with integrated switch ?

you need to explain what you use on your network now and what you want to achieve.

a router routes , and a switch switches - which are 2 very different things.

I bought D-link asdl2+ router (2640T) and I am happy with it. It cost 2000 at the start of the year, but I saw it for 1600 in fortune city last week.

I use it for true internet wi-fi.

That should be just fine.

I know a lot about wireless setup due to the fact that I was running a 5-router wireless distribution system for a while. So when I connected my all in one DSL modem router to my DSL modem, I could think of about 5 install steps necessary to make it work. But then, I just tried connecting the cables, and lo and behold, the router and the modem all did the right thing, and everything worked. There's a lot of smarts built into these devices nowadays. So just plug 'em together and see what happens.

I'd recommend a wireless N modem as well because then you can be sure you get pretty new hardware and software.

a d-link DIR-655

not being sure what you have at the moment - but the D link is a router , wireless access point and LAN switch

you will be connecting one of the LAN switch ports to your existing setup so your wireless devices have access to the internet.
