Missed The Expiration Date On 60-day Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

I tried several searches and couldn't find any discussions about this before.

I've done something stupid: a friend and I just missed the expiration date on our 60-day tourist visa today. We were planning to extend the visas another 30 days but somehow neglected the 8th printed on our passports (thought it was valid until the 10th for some reason). Now we will have to wait until Monday for the Immigration Bureau to open again and we will have overstayed 2 days (I know, dumb of me).

I am curious, has anyone found themselves in this situation before? I know you can pay the fee for overstay for about 500 baht per day. So, theoretically we can pay 1000 baht and everything will be okay, right? But will we have to immediately show that we have a ticket outta here or can we then get the extension still?

If this has happened to anyone else, do we need to pay the overstay first and then apply for the extension, or will they take care of both at the same time/same desk?

You will be at the mercy of the Immigration officer you deal with.

As Immigration was probably closed on the 8th they may let you get away with it.

If the immigration office was closed on the 8th,then they will extend it to you without overstay fine, otherwise, as "Lite Beer" said in his first sentence.

Good luck

Immigration web site for Bangkok clearly says it is not open on Saturday so do not believe you will have a problem extending on Monday if you are polite. But you should have done it last week as you lose nothing by doing a few days early - the extension starts the same day your current stay expires.

Cool thank you guys so much, you were absolutely right. We showed up early Monday, pointed out that we had overstayed 2 days, but because the office was closed on the day of our expiration they didn't really even care. We didn't have to pay the 1000 baht for our overstay and we were allowed to extend the visas' validity 30 days beyond the original expiration date.

Right on. Cheers

Glad that it worked for you and thanks for the feed back, as most of the folks do not care to write back after they got what they asked for, which usually is just to confirm to other enquirers that the answers were right.

Have a very good morning.
