Anyone Have A Spouse Looking For Work?

since 35% of the population probably makes more than the average expat here, I don't think that rich fallang anything.

Middle class Thais do not earn 9,000 baht a month. If you think that then go to your nearest tax office and find out.

The average income for a family in Thailand is low because there is a large percent of working poor that make less than 5,000 baht a month. That being said, doesn't mean that 9,000 for a Thai is good money.

Personally, I don't know any foreigner here that is as rich as the Thai people that I know. However, the majority of Thais here that I know are middle class. They are not labor or poor.

If you think that 9,000 is a good salary then why don't you take the job or have your wife do it. I just don't think that it is a good salary for any semi educated Thai for those long hours. Might as well work in a factory.

There are a lot of teachers who have graduated from University who are working for 9,000 baht or less after a number of years employment. Why should a brand new waitress make more than a teacher?

Newbie, you aint in Kansas anymore. :)

"And how many members on this site would be proud for their wives to be waitresses?"

Well, I would be proud of my wife if that's what she wanted to do and enjoyed doing it. I'd be proud of my wife if she swept roads, provided it's what she wanted. I wouldn't be proud of a women who needs to be dripping in gold, lays on the couch all day watching mindless TV programmes and sucking your ATM dry at every opportunity. For the record my wife has a uni degree, does have a very good job, earns an excellent salary and takes care of her family needs without asking me. But years ago when she first started working she was struggling and earning 3,000 Baht a month as an office junior, but she wanted to stick at it because she wanted her independence and now she's doing extremely well.

I'm sorry if you got lumbered with a blood sucker.

I know an ex Thai head of the English Department at the Faculty of Humanities Chiang Mai University. She has a PhD in Linguistics from a very reputable US university. She told me she earns less than 20 K per month. Her farang husband teaching part-time English classes earned more than her!

9k baht per month as a waitress (I guess plus tips as well) is great money for Chiang Mai.

Newbie001 - You really don't know what you are talking about. I have seen some of your posts on other threads and you really really don't know what you are talking about.

If this does not contravene TV posting rules:

What is the actualy salary being offered ?

In that no specific salary was mentioned in the original posting - many of you have assumed this to be 9000 Baht. It may well be that the actually salary offered is a lot less.

Indeed, and would it do any harm to post the salary offered?

That ex head of the English department is the Vice Dean of the entire Humanities faculty, and she makes more than 20,000. I don't know what you think reputable university is but no University in Georgia is ranked in the top 100. She is also on the Old system and recieves a pension. Her husband works part time and makes what other part time teachers make. He makes more than her only if you count the other privates and the money that he makes working at the HAS center.

Since part time teachers only make 350 baht per class at CMU and a class is 1 hour and 15 minutes long and the average part timer teaches 4-5 classes a semester each class meets 2 times a week. That averages about 14,000 baht a month and they aren't paid if there isn't class such as midterm or finals week or holidays. I think that you are the one that doesn't know what he is talking about.

The entire argument that I made wasn't about wage, it was about having someone's wife work as a full time waitress 6 days a week 9 hours a day for that low of a wage. The 9,000 was just an estimate on what she would make after tips. No where did the OP state the wage, I was just rounding up. I figured 6,-7,000 for a monthly salary and then another 2,000 or so from tips.

If you all think that is a good salary then, why don't you have your wives go apply. Otherwise, you prove my point that it isn't a good job for an educated bi lingual adult woman. This is not to say that it isn't a decent job for someone young without a work history. But how many here are married to 22 year olds. My whole argument is at the OP title of the thread. I will say it again, if the title read anyone know of a young Thai girl looking for work. I wouldn't not have said anything.

Teachers get low salary in every country. Most waitresses in the US make more than teachers Ulyses so I don't see your point. Governmental and non profit positions pay less.

uptheos: I am not sure if you can read or not, but I stated that my wife earns 25,000 baht a month. So how is she being a blood sucker? She also comes from a wealthy family. We live a middle class lifestyle, whereas her family is upper middle and some are quite wealthy even by western standards.

For fuxsake, I've met some jerks in Thailand over the years, but newbie001 you are one of the most obvious trolls on this Forum.

The only reason I'm wasting my time here is because I'm sitting out on my terrace with a cold beer, my wife is putting the little fellah to bed and she hasn't worked for the past 12 yrs but she earns about US$100,000 each year.

What did she do before she retired to command such a good pension?

There is also lot of doctors and other professionals who have gratuated from University who are working for 100,000 bath or more. Why should waitress make only 9k per month ?

See where your logic fails ?

It all depends where you compare. You could also ask that how come farang english teatcher with fake degree is making 30k per month when qualified local teachers are paid less than 10k ?

I can see newbies point here as i understand that you having posted for your friend and being a business owner yourself love the fact that labour is cheap in thailand. So do i when it comes to doing business here. Just don't take it personally if someone has different view on things.

Newbie001, newbie001, newbie001, I can't say anything that everyone hasn't already said but let me try. There is no shame in being a waitress as you imply with your post. You are obstinately, irrationally and intolerantly devoted to your own belief that earning an honest wage for an honest day's work is somehow demeaning to someone who might be married to a poster on Thaivisa. I am wondering how you can eat at any restaurant knowing that you hold those that are serving you in such low regard? Do you also feel this way about Bellmen? Front desk personnel? How about sanitation workers? Hairdressers?

Your wife is a teacher and you think this way? I'm guessing that maybe you didn't think this argument through. Thaivisa is filled with people from all walks of life. This does not give you the right to belittle or demean them because 9000 Baht a month or more would help them out financially. Some of the foreign teachers in Chiang Mai earn as little as 30,000 Baht a month. Bank tellers and bank branch assistant managers earn 20,000 Baht a month. Accountants in large offices that have been working for years earn 6,500 Baht a month. Most Thai teachers earn less than 9000 Baht. A waitress earns a decent salary. Maybe someone wants a raise for their spouse, a better job?

There is no shame in admitting you erred in your argument. I have to do it all the time.

Did you actually bother to read his posts? How do you infer that he implies 'shame'?

This topic has lost its way with, in my opinion, misinformation by one member who must not be aware of Chiang Mai salary ranges. I also know many who have PhDs and many who are graduates and speak excellent English and they fit the 10-20k brackets, many even less. As there has been no mention of the salary offered and the information is available for those who wish to avail themselves of it...
