What Is In Tamiflu

Featured Replies

Tamiflu . What is in this medicine ?? Can it be found in any other medicines ?

Im not yet convinced that this whole Flu thing is not just a serious hoax just as bird Flu was and just a money making racket of

drug companies getting its board members filthy rich..

Tamiflu is a medecine that nobody should take unless a medical doctor who knows what he is doing has prescribed it. If you really wanted to know what is in Tamiflu, not use this question to make disparaging remarks about people you do not even know, you would have done a search on the world-wide web.

Maybe you should stop blowing your flute and look to see who is on the board of the company making Tamiflu .

And what are my disparaging remarks about people I dont know BUT never mentioned other than those getting filthy rich -

Yes, the makers of Tamiflu are getting rich and I too believe profits they make are “filthy” – but only half as dirty as the role the carbon companies play in the climate change crisis; banks in the financial crisis and of course the grime in America in the role the insurance business plays in their health care crisis. The rich are maximizing profits to get ever richer while minimizing costs (which is the accepted norm for business) that can literally kill people and destroy the environment. However, don’t confuse getting filthy rich and deluding yourself that the Bird and Swine Flu problem are hoaxes. They may be false alarms, and may be improperly hyped by the media, but the world will be hit by a serious pandemic soon, if not now. Believing they're hoaxes implies scheming, which typifies conspiracy theorists. Such people start from an emotional conclusion and work backwards to select the evidence that suits their prejudice.

Roche has the patent on oseltamivis under brand name Tamiflu which would have gone to 2016, but (under considerable political pressure) agreed a few years back to allow others to manufacture it after the emergence of first SAR and then avian influenza -- which, although it has not yet mutated into a form readily spread human to human, continues to carry a very high mortality rate.

In Thailand oseltamivir is available in inexpensive generic form, GPO-A-Flu Cap. The Thai Ministry of Public Health currently makes it available to patients with H1N1 ("swine flu", properly called now "Novel 2009 Influenza A") and no one is getting rich from that. (and of course, to the much smalelr numbers of cases of avian flu)

It must be taken within 2 days of symptoms to be effective. It is not effective against all types of influenza, but it is effective against H5N1 (bird flu) and H1N1 ("swine flu") . However the "ordinary" seasonal flus of 2008 - 2009 have not been responsive to it. Flu viruses constantly mutate and the sensitivity of each new strain/varaint to various drugs has to be tested.

It is a type of antiviral called a neuraminidase inhibitors; another in same family is zanamivir.

Like all drugs, these have side effects which anyone taking them or considering taking them should read up on.
