This morning, I had to re-confirmation user id/password under a bit of pressure and had to deal with these security graphical confirmations images.

I understand the purpose and have no problem with the additional security but more than 1/2 the time, I can barely recognize the characters.

Is this due to programs unable to generate better character images or that today's hackers have programs that can more easily interpret these images.

It gets even more frustrating if you fail to recognize the image and need to get another one, and then sometimes part of the information that has been previously entered on the page is also wiped off. You have enter the information again unless the site contains a cookie (I guess) that contains information you previously entered.

Rant over! :)

I agree.

Many times it takes 2 or 3 attempts to get a readable combination of characters.

I have noticed that many sites now use a phrase rather than random characters so it is possible to make a guess if some of the letters are unreadable which is much better

Some web sites with CAPTCHA security have a sound button.

The system will read this hieroglyphs...

Can you imaging people with impaired vision trying to read that -

without a sound button or the help of another person they will never be able

to run this security check properly.
