Chiang Mai Expat Exports 'dudeism' To California

Featured Replies

I was ordained into the Church of the Latter Day Dude April 2008; life has never been better since I released the inner Dude - it was after this I chose to move to Thailand.

The Dude will abide.

"In Dude We Trust"

good movie but this guy is a loser.

A "loser"? Such an all too common pointless, ignorent post. I peronally know this dude and he is an accomplished writer and musician who happens to be a rather nice guy with an offbeat sense of humor.

Come join the slowest-growing religion in the world - Dudeism.

An ancient philosophy that preaches non-preachiness, practices as little as possible, and above all, uh...lost my train of thought there. Anyway, if you'd like to find peace on earth and goodwill, man, we'll help you get started. Right after a little nap.

How do we know he is from Chiang Mai? I thought Ben Youngblood was the inspiration behind the movement?

so he is unemployed? kool.

Dude, He is self employed, didn't you just see he does adverts for Volkswagen?

ah, its like those tshirts you see with some cute joke written on them. tehy make you smile for 3 seconds and then you realize that the person actually bought it and is wearing it.

That's a nice piece of property from which he's preaching his Dude-like asceticism. Give a yuppie a dirty robe and he thinks he's a Hollywood prophet.

It wasn't my house. That was just where they wanted to film. It was the house of a friend of the producer.

I'm not a yuppie. I live in Chiang Mai and write travel articles part-time.

I wonder why promoting a philosophy of being nice to people and taking it easy brings out the worst in some people. I guess these aren't people for whom Dudeism would be a very compelling pastime anyway.

Anyway, for those of you who aren't real reactionaries, Nihilists, or human paraquat, please check out the sites:

Ben's a cool guy, a Lebowski-fan and a definite Dude. He was going to start a similar site around the time I did but I think didn't get around to it. Dude minds think alike.

I haven't yet seen the video, so what am I talking about?!

However, it did bring to mind Bob, as in 'Thank Bob' 'in Bob We Trust' 'Bob dammit'

'Bob bless America' et. al. ...which I believe originated in Davis California (between SF and Sacramento) but Bob damned, I can't be sure.

...anyone know where I can get a copy of this movie, dvd or vcd....I live in the boonies, far from the city....thanks..

After reading the film summary in Wikipedia, I'm quite interested in seeing it also. I suspect it might be a rarity in LOS but I did come across this link:

I was amazed how that little "B" grade movie became a sub-culture hit film. I guess a lot of Ameriicans could identify with the characters... as a sort of F-you establishment thing. But, it's understandable that some clever establishment "dude" would try and market it.

man i'm amazed at how easy it is for people to misunderstand what's going on here.

if people would click on the links i posted they'd find out more.

check out this article at the dudespaper: http://dudespaper.com/dudeism-at-the-movies.html/

for some radio interviews i gave which explain a lot more you can see this: http://dudespaper.com/jesus-man-can-you-ch...the-radio.html/

i'd love to get some dudeist events going in thailand. anyone who digs dudeism is welcome to contact me.

I'm down with this- HUGE fan of the movie and can see why you'd want to get something like this going.

That's just your opinion, man. :) The Dude is anything but ascetic. He drinks white russians, smokes dope, bowls and appreciates oriental carpets.
