Firstly he needs to come here, then he has to give the Embassy an Affirmation to Marry, this is a legal document that is signed and stamped by the Embassy, this usually takes 1 day. After it has been collected it needs to be translated into Thai, then your friend or his GF takes it to the MFA, where it needs to be certified. Only after all this has been done can your friend get legally married in Thailand.

Visa is another problem, what with the Visa officers being told to look out for marriages of convenience and such things it might be difficult, why does your friend not want to come and live here with his GF?

Although disability allowance cannot be paid in Thailand there are means and ways to get it done.

I would think apart from anything else he would be struggling to meet the financial requirements to live in Thai

How old is he? he had a stroke and is on disability pay of E205/week

In Canada thats roughly C300 a week. Not sure about Ireland but you will definitely be struggling on C300 a week.

And there would be NO chance of him sponsoring his wife over.

However if you can still collect your disability money while in LOS, you should do ok.

maybe not a troll, A gorgeous Thai girl would be one of the few that would give a guy some attention in a wheelchair/ stroke etc. But unfortunately the cold hard facts are he would have to be here with some serious money. A few months O/S and she will disappear with his uncle , nephew etc. Sorry but they are the facts

I don't think your friends problem is getting married. If he bring all the necessary documents from Ireland, he can get married in Thailand being on a tourist visa. The problem will be on the long turn staying together, either in Thailand or Ireland. His disability pay is not much to support a wife on, and not enough to get her a visa to Ireland. It's probably enough to get a married visa in Thailand that requier personal income on at least 400.000 bath.

Hi there.

May I ask how they met?

And if they have spent long time together?

He is basically wthout any funds, and she is pretty well off.

Still a marriage is on the table?

Bells are ringing here.
