August 16, 200916 yr Hi, I am getting married in November in my GF's village. Expecting about 200-300 people, mixture of locals and foreigners. I have agreed to buy the alcohol. I have been to Makro, Big C and the local beer shop, and all the prices are about the same - 40 Bhat for Leo (my poison of choice)... given that I was planning on about 1000 bottles, it is going to be a bleedin' pricey affair. I can switch to Chang of course, a tad cheaper. But I still haven't got any mixures, soft drinks, whiskey etc... Is there any place I can go to get cheaper prices for large quantities...? Any suggestions from anyone who has gotten married and has any good ideas? Cheers James

August 16, 200916 yr I remembered I paid for the beer (Beer Lao) at my ex-sister in law's wedding in Phon Phisai, Nong Khai. It was 10 bahts each.
August 16, 200916 yr I'll give you the advice my wife gave me before our wedding. Don't buy a lot of beer because it's expensive and people can drink too much of it. Buy a few boxes of the local white whiskey and some 100 Pipers or similar. Then your guests will get drunk pretty quick and go home before they can drink too much. I have been to a few weddings where no beer at all was available, just whiskey and we still had a good time.
August 16, 200916 yr Alcohol upcountry just leads to fighting. Buy too little. Hide it well. Don't get into the habit of flaunting your cash ever in Thailand. Get a reputation as a tightwad or a pauper or both. It will serve you very well.
