Aircondioning : How To Clean ?

Featured Replies

My apartment has an old (maybe 10-15 years old) air conditioning unit. Does every air conditioning have a filter, also the older ones ? If not, how can it be cleaned ?

I'd suggest you get it serviced and thoroughly cleaned. Look for someone who does AirCon servicing (as opposed to Sales!). I had 5 units cleaned and they seemed to have some kind of cleaning fluid which they ran through the system. It may have just been water... but the units ran much cooler afterwards. Should only cost a few hundred baht.

If it is as old as you say then may I suggest you dump it and have it replaced (you'll save a lot of money on your electricity bill!)?

For cleaning go to any shop near your place selling ACs. They also usually offer cleaning services.

It would be unusual not to find a filter inside the unit.Every unit should have one but, over the course of usage, some deteriorate and may never get replaced. If it is a standard wall mounted unit,it should be easy to clean the filter yourself.Just unclip the casing and gently remove the filter then take it outside and brush it down with a soft bristle brush. For a full service, you need a professional to do the job.

I had mine cleaned by a random aircon company just the other day. They used a water pressure machine to clean the indoor unit and I was really surprised how dirty the water coming out of it was.Cost was 550 baht, took 3 people about an hour to clean and check in and outdoor unit.

After seeing what dirt came off I will have it cleaned more frequently.

4 units cleaned and serviced for only 400bt per unit.

Boss & 2 slaves, cheap, when you see them do a professional job.

Water as black as a buffalo's axxx. :)
