Best way for consultant to receive payments from US Corporation in Thailand?

Hello,

I’m a Canadian who’s been living in the U.S. for the last 8 years, about to move to Thailand for an undetermined amount of time. In fact, the amount of time is really determined by how much revenues I can generate in Thailand. My previous employer (let’s call it CorpUS) wants to give me a few contracts totaling 15K U.S. dollars, maybe more. I would remotely execute these contracts from Thailand. I’m not U.S. citizen, therefore I don’t have to tell Uncle Sam about foreign revenues. Moreover, I’d like to avoid paying taxes to Uncle Sam as I suspect taxes are lower in Thailand.

As far as receiving payments from CorpUS, I’m not sure how to manage that. I guess there are many options available:

1) Receive payments as an individual through Paypal-Thailand.

Instead of writing a long P.O., CorpUS sometimes uses a corporate credit card to pay for small expense (< 5K $). CorpUS could use its corporate card to send money on my Thai Paypal account.

Questions: I guess this would raise the Thai government's suspicion at some point. How can a government determine that a Paypal payment is a revenue vs a friend “donation”?

At what threshold will the Thai government question me about these sums of money?

2) Receive payments as a separate Thai business entity.

I would have to open a Thai consulting company, taking care of accounting, pay taxes to the Thai government, funnel a salary to myself and some Thai. Suggestions as to what type of entity I should create are welcome.

3) Receive payments as an autonomous Thai worker.

Is that even possible?

4) Last option would be to receive payments through Paypal USA, but that implies that I’m paying taxes to Uncle Sam. I’d prefer to avoid that.

Has anyone has been through this process before? I’d be very grateful if you could point me toward the right direction. :)

Thanks,

Ryle
