Getting Married In Myanmar And Visas To Australia

Recommended Posts

I am currently living in Australia and my fiance is a Myanmar (Burmese) Citizen living in Myanmar. I am on the way back to Myanmar to see what options we have to organise a visa for her back to Australia. I have looked at the possibility of getting married in Myanmar, but have found negative feedback on marriage of foreigners to Myanmar citizens. Has anyone got any information on what path to take in my current situation.

Why not visit your Embassy when you get there? They are aware of problem of marriage of nationals to foreigners and can probably give you guidelines/possibilities on your/her plans/hopes.

We had a few questions about that from people wanting to get married in Thailand. As you said, it is very difficult as the Mynamar governement is less then cooperating. However, some have stated that it is possible, but they needed to pay a certain ammount to get the necesarry documents to get married in Thailand.

Haven't seen anything from people who tried to get married in Myanmar itself.

Sorry but my suggestion is forget it! Had a goo friend who was in exactly the same situation (except he was from England). Tried all sorts, money(legal), money (bribery illegal) but to no avail. The Burmese as you must be well aware are extremely wary of foreigners (look at Aung San Sue Chi who married a Westerner). Perhaps you may have good luck with the Burmese authorities, and the various embassies, but please don't hold you breath.

Yeah I understand the difficulties involved. And I will continue to find at us much information as I can. If anyone has gone throught a similar process and succeeded please dont hesitate to fill me in. I have looked at Sponsored family visa's as my fiances step uncle resides in Australia. Ultimately appling for a prospective marriage visa is the go....has anyone succeeded with either of these two visa's.
