August 23, 200916 yr Hi, I'm trying to find a simple thermometer for the refridgerator. They're "spring-based" thermometers (as opposed to mercury-based) and they hang from the shelves in the fridge. I thought it'd be easy, but struck out at both HomePro and BigC. Central Chitlom had oven thermometers, but the temperature readings were too high to use in the fridge. Has anybody seen these around BKK? If so, where? Thanks
August 23, 200916 yr Most countries in the world have banned the use of mercurial thermometers due to environmental concerns. Only meteorological and hospital setting still use it for the most part. So I'd just check where the thermometer is made and unless Thailand for some reason is still putting mercury in them any regular liquid thermometer ought to do. If you can't find a spring-based thermo have you thought about a small digital one? Battery operated usually but batteries don't like the cold, but lithium batteries do much better in the cold and last for probably 2 years. In my fridge I have a regular thermo sitting on the shelf. Inexpensive and close enough. I'm not in BKK but hope this helps.
August 23, 200916 yr Author Interesting, but I'm not actually too concerned with the type... I just want to know where I can buy a thermometer for my fridge in BKK. The "obvious" place -- Home Pro -- didn't sell any thermometers. Central sold only thermometers for ovens (lowest temp was 100). BigC didn't sell them either. If anybody knows _where_ I can find one, I'd appreciate it. Thanks
August 23, 200916 yr You always can buy one of those weather stations which have a outside temperature function so you just place the unit on top of your fridge and lead the sensor for the outside temperature into your fridge. No idea about the price but they are available at most electronics stores e.g. powerbuy.
August 23, 200916 yr If you don't end up finding a retailer, see if a restaurant or shop will sell you one of theirs. They might have an extra one or be willing to go without in one display case or fridge.
