Non Imm O Visa

Featured Replies

Hi All

New to this forum so please be patient.

I moved to Udon Thani from the UK in March this year with a 12 month multiple entry non-immigrant type O visa, obtained by being over 50. I have already been into Laos for the 1st 90 day extension.

My 2nd extension is due soon. My question is do I have to do a visa run into Laos.

A colleague has suggested that my visa is similar to a retirment visa in that all he has to do is report to the local immigration office.

I seek some expert advice please

Regards

You can ask for an extension from immmigration based on retirement if you meet one of the following income demands:

- have an income of 65,000 baht a month (can be from abroad)

OR

- have 800,000 baht in a bankaccount in Thailand for at least 2 months

OR

- have a combintion of yearly income and money in the bank totaling 800,000 baht.

The extension will be for 1 year and can be asked for every year. You than won't need to do a border run every 90 days, but instead report your address every 90 days (this can almost everywhere be done by mail).

My apologies for not making it clear. can I report my address now to the local IM/OF every 90 days rather than doing the ratrun. I have not got the retirement visa yet ?

Thanks for the reply Mario

With what you have at the moment you do have to do border runs every 90 days. Do the final one just before it expires and you will get another 90 days. Giving a total of 15 months.

As said you can apply for 12 month extensions from Immigration.

You have a visa, based on retirement. But a visa is nothing more than a permission to come to Thailand. Each time you come to Thailand you will get a permission to stay for 90 days, this is something seperate. If you want to get a longer permission to stay you have to go to immigration and meet the mentioned criteria.

Thanks Lite beer

Just to clear it up in my mind (i,m nice but dim )

The only way I won.t have to do the run is by having a retirement visa.

The problem being that it takes 2 pages of the passport every time

Cheers

You would need a one year extension of stay from Immigration for retirement at the above mentioned financial conditions. You could do it during the last 30 days of any 90 day visa entry. If you do not take that route you will have to make border crossings every 90 days and will probably have to travel to the UK or OZ to obtain another visa like you currently have (if you plan to stay here long term).
