Malaysia Visa

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm interested in going to Malaysia soon with my girlfriend who is from Myanmar. I'm assuming she can just get the visa from the Malaysian embassy here in Bangkok before leaving, and it'd probably be easier if I went with her and showed some bank statements (from Oz). Anything else I should expect in doing this?

The next step is a bit more complicated. I may actually relocate to KL for a job soon, and I'd like to know the best thing I can do for her in terms of getting a visa, and for us to be able to continue living together. Thailand is a complete pain in the arse as far as being able to stay together legally (for both of us, that is), but I've heard the Malaysian visa system is not quite so antiquated.

Thing is, we also applied for an Australian spouse visa a few months back. So even I score this job, we will have to go back to Oz to validate her visa. That's not a problem at all. But will her Australian visa give her any priviledges in terms of a Malaysian visa, or will she still pretty much be relying on her Myanmar passport?

We can also legally get married in Malaysia (though not in Thailand if you've read my previous posts), so if we did tie the knot would she be able to stay on my work permit? Even if we didn't get married, is it easy for Burmese citizens to keep renewing tourist visas (providing they have the funds and resources)? Or, is a different class of visa available? I'm hoping it's all a bit different from the LOS :)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

Myauq :D
