Has anyone used this

"wireless router fitted with a custom firmware able to wirelessly share a CDMA connection through USB EV-DO modems sold by CAT Telecom"

by Data Wizards located in Phuket?

I posted about going wireless with the CDMA 680 in the computer forum and the answer was that i had to buy an expensive WLAN router/modem.. whatever...

I am not that technical when it comes to hardware

What do you want to do? Just have one computer / laptop online with the wireless CDMA modem by CAT or do you need to have several computers / laptops online at the same time with the wireless CDMA modem by CAT?

If you need just one computer / laptop online at a time then you don't need to buy the special router from Phuket Data Wizards, you just need the USB modem from CAT.

Oops. I have the CDMA 680 already..

but I have a mac and I hate to have to disconnect and connect everytime I open and close the computer. Also the signal is only strong on one side of the house.

So I would like to just leave it connected, open my notebook lid and have it already connected and of course throughout the small house.

i also use a mac desk top with cdma, I have just set up a local network with the airport which allows any onther computer to share the connection the mac is on 24/7 and some times the speed is ok sometimes terrible but works ok for me.

Just go to your network preferences and follow the help section on how to set up a local network.

For easy usage, you need an special wireless router. That way you can use any wlan device in the home.

I'm using Asus WL700ge router, which have usb-ports. The box is running OpenWRT embedded linux and is connected with the USB to the CAT CDMA network. Connection is shared to my home.

If you are familiar with linux, you can buy any usb-enabled and OpenWRT supported router and do the settings by your self.

I just switched from PC and I am clueless about linux.

So If I buy the mac airport can I just plug in my cdma card? The newer one looks like it has a usb port. Is this a totally insane idea?

How much do the Asus WL700 run? and where in THailand did you buy one?

Thanks for all this info!

you do not need to buy anything extra, your mac is the only router you need so long as your other pc is wifi enabled, it is just about setting up a local network so the pc talks to the airport built in to the mac desk top.

It is only my mac... and I get tired of connecting and disconnecting everytime I open and close the lid ...

I want to open the lid and have the computer find the signal automatically .... like in the real world where people have phone lines and a wireless router and presto they are connected and they don't have a dongle to insert all the time.. (I just came back from the states so I am a bit spoiled).

Plug the CDMA EVDO moden into one of the computers. Then connect the computers wirelessly with there network cards. If you don't have wireless card, buy a usb adapter there about 900 baht. Use internet connection sharing built into windows. Macs should be able to detect the shared network.

The most important thing is to set the network wireless cards to adhoc instead of the default infrastructure.

Have done this before to connect several laptops and pda phones to one laptop with the cdma modem.

Actually it was a big hassle and I had to download the new driver from the Franklin website.but that is another boring story.

I want a wireless signal in my house not coming from my computer but to be picked up by my computer.

Otherwise i have to disconnect and reconnect everytime I open and close the computer. As with my mac I do not have to "shut it off" but can jsut put it to sleep, I dont want to have to disconnect the cdma and reconnect the cdma.

Just like normal people with normal telephone lines have a wireless router, i want to connect this to a router. But my initial question was simply had anyone used Data Wizard's router. his priced seemed a lot lower then a WLan which was recomended to me tin the tech forum.

I'm using for a few years a Sierra Aircard installed in a wireless router ( router with PMCIA slot ) and it works not to bad as the router has a automatic connection option so every time the Sierra Aircard connection drops out it will be automatically reconnected.

The signal is normally full strength on the second floor of my house.

I heard that the new USB 3G devices from CAT has a better download speed !!

Before I spend 7000 Baht for a new 3G device and new router with USB port I would like to find out if this USB 3G is indeed better then the Sierra Aircard.

Does anybody knows if the new type 3G divices are better then the “old” Sierre card.

Try a mobiewave. Been advertising in the Gazette. Cost is about 6,000 baht. CDMA card plugs into it and it can serve wirelessly for up to 20 computers. Installed at my office 2 weeks ago and speed has been great.

I want to know if someone else has tried this first :) The first mass email he sent out advertising this, (I got in my inbox) had a link to a support website. When I went there there was a note from the engineers saying why the had to close the project...ending with bye bye.

Then I emailed him about it and was not satisfied with the response..forget what it was. Then about a month later another mass email comes through..with NO LINK! duh!

So has anyone tried it as this is what I am looking for and was the basis of my original question.

OK, for this question you have to used special 3G Wireless router follow with

- NET-432R 3G Wireless Router 5,500 bath (Thailandcdma.com)

- MobieWave #MWU form mobiewave 6,000 bath (mobiewave.com)

- EnGenius ESR-6650 (not supported CCU-680) 3,900 (nvk.co.th)

you only plug your USB to usb port and play, anywhere if you have CCU-680 you must to put some user, password for CAT in router also :)
