longstebe
Finally my personal items have arrived today. I just thought I would share my experience with anyone thinking or wanting to do likewise. The service I paid for was for door-door (Houston,Texas - Sakon Nakhon). My items were picked up on May 31st and stored,I'm guessing for 6-8 weeks. The container arrived on Aug 24 in BKK. The shipping company (Thai end) sent there own guys up to Sakon Nakhon (issan), unloaded, signed a few bits of paperwork and they were off. The company I used in the states were Cross Country Van Lines, based out of New York (I think). The volume was 4.729 CBM / 635 KGS. No furniture, the biggest item was my T.v. The cost was approx $2500 (usa end). I packed everything myself apart from the T.v. This was all in my wifes name to avoid the taxes (yeah right). The wife had been out of Thailand for 2.5 years and in that time she had never stayed longer than 1 month back in LOS for a visit. I believe they give you up to 3 months. So, here we both are in LOS waiting for a phone call from the shipping company (Thai end). SC: Hello your items have arrived and you will need to pay 20,000-30,000 baht for taxes. Wife: <deleted>. I am Thai and you want to charge me this kind of money. I am student in university and don't have this kind of money. SC: Ok, does 9000 baht sound better? Wife: No choice but ok. Apparently if the wifey has been back in LOS longer than 6 months from the day the shipment arrived in Thailand they will charge you. Feel free to ask any questions. I think I've covered everything.
