Bicycle Rental In Pattaya - Not Motorcycle

Featured Replies

Hello,

I'd like to rent a bicycle (as opposed to a motorcycle) in Pattaya for a few weeks. It's just a better way to stay in shape and nicer way to get around, at least in my opinion.

So far, I've seen only one hotel (a-one hotel on Beach Road near soi 3...call it a-zero hotel) renting cheap 3000 baht worth bikes. The Hotel wanted 150 Baht / 3 hours + 100 U.S.$ deposit + my passeport. I told them they really didn't want to rent these bikes. Let's move on.

Anyone knows where I can rent for a longer period of time, like 1, 2 or 3 weeks?

Thanks!

I have seen bikes on sale for less than 1000 baht new in Pattaya. Maybe just buy one then take it back home. Most airlines carry a bike for free if forewarned.

Bikes? They are toys

They wanted your passport too :)

I rented a bicycle once in Jomtiem. No passport required and I think it was about the same price. Anyway the seat was hard as a rock and the brakes were of dubious quality.

If I were serious about biking for a couple of weeks, I would buy one as the prices are not that high. Pass it on to another person when you leave. If you are on a budget, maybe you could decrease your hotel spend(?)

Have fun,

I have been thinking.

It might be best to ask around a bit, local Thai's, Motor Cycle Taxi drivers etc. I am sure someone will rent you a bike cheaply.

I think the easiest thing to do is go to Tesco or Big C, or even a specialist bike shop, and buy a new one. No worry about losing a deposit when you return it. Have someone ready to buy it cheap when you leave. Buy a cheap one at 1,000 Bt, that will be 50 Bt per day for three weeks use, plus a return if you sell it.

Clearly some of these jokers have never ridden a bike. :) 1000 baht bicycle?

Sadly, you going to be a bit stuck for a decent bike. I looked into it, but the only option was to buy a new one and sell it back to the shop for half price at the end of your stay. A TREK was around 14k, so only useful for longstayers or for those who want a decent cycle and don't care too much about the cost.

The supermarket bicycles are pure rubbish.

Renting a bike is really a waste of time in Pattaya, there are no good outlets.

You can buy a bike in Tescos or Carrefour for about 5-6000 baht but be warned...they are cheap chinese style imports..they look okay but fall apart....the pedals are plastic/ rubber and will snap off at the screw given any testing pressure, the wheel bearings will break up quickly, the gears are the cheapest possible and will lose selection after a few days...the list goes on.

If you really want a good semi mountain bike style then go down Theprasit Road (Jomtien) towards the sea and on the right hand side about half way down is a "real" mountain bike shop and they will sell you a reasonable quality bike for around 8000 baht upwards which you could sell on after your holiday...."trust me" I have been along this route of buying bikes. (14,000 Baht will buy you a 24 Gear bike, with adjustable front shockers and lightweight frame etc which is probably a good bike without rear suspension and disc brakes, a very good all round bike, which is what I have)

Good Luck

Paul

Bike shops on Thepprasit Road. :)

Some of the motorcycle renters on or around the Beach Road may have a bicycle or two to rent, though they will inevitably the supermarket rubbish.

There are times when the prices in Thailand amaze me. In Japan, I can buy a decent, last for years, run around town, basket in the front, one speed bicycle for about 3.5k baht. If I want to improve to a sturdier, multi-speed model then up to an additional 3.5k or so is more than enough for a quality machine.

Walking along the Jomtien Beach Road I remember passing a line of mountain bikes for rent, I can't remember exactly where, maybe someone living in Jomtien can confirm with more information.
