mackayae
Today is a special day. Lucky for some, unlucky for others. At 0900 hours there were many ceremonies throughout Thailand in recognition of this special/magic day. The number 9 has special/unique properties; ask any mathematician. It is considered lucky in Thailand and China, but unlucky in Japan. Even the Beatles got into the act...."Number nine, number nine". In Thailand there is even more significance through Rama IX. It is considered lucky in Thailand and China, but unlucky in Japan. Even the Beatles got into the act...."Number nine, number nine". In Thailand there is even more significance through Rama IX. The sum of the digits which form its multiples are themselves always a multiple of nine; e.g., 2 x 9 = 18 (and 1+8=9); 3 x 9 = 27 (and 2+7=9); 4 x 9 = 36 (and 3+6=9); 5 x 9 = 45 (and 4+5=9), etc., etc.; and so with the larger numbers: 52843 x 9 = 475587 (and 4+7+5+5+8+7=36, and 3+6=9). bannork
It's 2552 in Thailand, not 2009, so any auspicious events occurred 543 years ago during the Ayuttaya era.
bkkmick
Try this one (if it makes sense): Hold both hands in front of you, palms facing away and fingers spread out. Ask your kid (or anyone else for that matter) for a number to multiply 9 by (from 1 to 10). If for example they say 5 then start counting on your fingers from the little finger on you right hand towards your left. When you finish counting to five you're on the thumb of your right hand. Fold the thumb in leaving 4 fingers on your right hand raised (40) and 5 fingers on your left hand raised (5) so, as seen from your kids point of view 5 multiplied by 9 = 45. Ok now try 9 multiplied by 7 on your own. Suit yourself, my daughter liked it.

Norrad
I took my wife to hospital today for an ultrasound and all the doctors are running around like crazy. It appears there are a ton of pregnant women having c-sections today so their baby can be born on this lucky day.
