September 10, 200916 yr So I call into the wine connection in Jungceylon with the mrs for a bite to eat ......... Asked the staff what cheeses came with the cheese board replied in clear english and listed the cheeses , happy so ordered Then asked about the meat platter and again clear explination in english , happy again so ordered . Had the obligatory wine with the meal , well presented prompt polite service and wonderfull food ( around 800baht all in ) Will be going back , especially after visiting 101 the following day.............. 101 is exactly opposite and offered pretty much the same as the wine connection ( Noticeably more expensive though ) however they did offer a Thai menu for the wife which was lacking at the wine connection so decided to eat there. Now not having an evening of cheese + wine for a very very long time i now find myself in two days having the same....... or so i hoped !!! The staff to start were pleasant but there english was poor at best again asked about the cheeses availialble for the platter , they had absolutely no idea and it wasn't listed in the menu , however the picture indicated a variety including stilton ( my first mistake assuming the picture actually meant anything ) then the same responce when I asked about the meat platter. Decided to order anyway ( the price for what seemed to be roughly the same was around 50% more than directly opposite ! ) Well absolute C!@* arrived , the meat platter kind of just thrown in a big pile on a small plate and the cheese platter had precisely 2 different cheese on there with a Big portion of nothing else but lettuce. I tad peed off I asked the staff what this thing was they had just put in front of me, u ask for meat and cheese this is meat and cheese , i tried to explian politley ( im with the wife so for her ) that this really isnt what is described on the menu , and to my surprise a quick sharp harsh reply came thrown back at me , all cheese same same ! they then walked off never to return to our table. paid the bill and left So hats to wine connection and to 101 well .............. NOT IN ANYWAY AFFILIATED WITH EITHER OF THESE ESTABLISHMENTS
September 10, 200916 yr The Jung Ceylon "Wine Connection" have a good value "set" menu with about four main choices, one being Quiche and salad, with nice bread, free water and a pudding all for 199bht, ; and a sympathetic French Manager . We have had lunch there several times since it's recent opening and have been pleased.A glass of wine or beer is not overpriced either.
September 16, 200916 yr Agreed that Wine Connection is great value with high quality, and about time too for restaurants on that stretch of JC,
September 16, 200916 yr The Wine connection has been busy since the day they opened. I've eaten there several times and have always been happy. Some affordable wines for sale too! I'm just waiting for them to start some wine tastings.
September 17, 200916 yr Sounds like total lack of staff training from 101. You can't blame the staff if they are pig-ignorant about how to present cheeses and what each cheese is etc etc. It's down to the manager to train and educate his/her staff in these matters. But, as a sweeping generalisation for the whole Thai nation(!), they don't like it when someone justifiably complains do they??? Simon
September 25, 200916 yr Does anyone know if the wine connection in Chernt Talay offers the same food menu as JungCeylon?

I'm just waiting for them to start some wine tastings. We thought it was good value........to start with..........but a lunch this week showed signs of careless preparation and below average standards. Shall be careful on choice IF we go again, but it is a nice place to watch the world go by. Pity they don't have a non smoking policy when people are eating though.
September 25, 200916 yr all cheese same same! it aint half difficult to complain over here sometimes. I would of walked out if a waitress had that attitude with me and NOT paid.
September 25, 200916 yr Isn't smoking illegal in all indoor restaurants? Is having a roof but open ended "indoor" interesting point for the smokers who have a death wish and non smokers. And how is it enforced?
