Does anyone know if Waffle Irons (either Belgian or regular) are available in Bangkok? The wife wants to bring maple syrup next time we visit and make waffles for her family. Can't see bringing one from the US and dealing with the 220/110 issues if I don't need to. Thanks.

Should be able to find the cast iron ones easily. When I was northern Thailand I saw numerous ones being used over the charcoal fires. If they weren't so heavy I would have loaded them up & brought them back.

yes... folks are correct, waffle irons of various types are relatively easy to find in the various department and appliance stores... Even pricey real maple syrup in some of the specialty/gourmet grocery stores...

BKK is a city full of curiosities... One of them for me is... at most SkyTrain stations around town, there are little waffle stands that sell pretty decent smallish round mini-waffles of various flavors, usually for between 15 and 18 baht per piece. I've tried them and they're perfectly fine... Some counters even have their waffle irons on the counter there, cooking new ones as their supplies deplete.

Thais seem consistently unable or uninterested to do decent breads... But for some reason, they have taken to waffles quite nicely.
