Do You Think It Will Be Safe In Bangkok?

With talk of Thaksin returning (again) and mass rallies/disturbances forecast for next week, my wife and myself were wondering just how safe it will be in Bangkok next week. We fly in on Thursday morning, will it be all over bar the shouting by them or will our travel plans be at risk of being disrupted?

We only have a couple of days in Bangkok then out to HCMC and Phnom Penh for a week or so then back to Thailand, are any airport disturbnces expected?

Thanks, worried, England :)

What disturbances happen, if they do, are normally confined to a small area. Avoiding them isn't difficult as there's often a large gathering beforehand. Anything that appears to be a political rally in a foreign country is best avoided.

Thanks for that, so just the gun toting jet ski men and undercover cops offering us a joint then eh!

In general the problems that arise due to political unrest go relatively unnoticed by the average farang or tourist. Come on over here and enjoy yourself...

Thanks, we were there last year and saw i think it was yellow shirts partying, during a tuk tuk ride from KS Rd to our hotel, its more the airport closure that worries us really or possible other transport issues.

My very first trip to Thailand was extended an extra week because of the good old yellow shirts. lol Did it really effect me? NOT AT ALL! I have been back on a number of other occasions and never truly worried about it. I am no expert but I say go to Thailand and ENJOY!! If you hear about something on the news, just plan for something else in a different area!! ALL TOO EASY!!! Thailand is GREAT!!

If there was a coup whilst you were there it would be less of a disruption than the same happening in some South American banana republic. But it may not happen and it's easy to avoid the political rallies.

No need to get worried.

This could be very interesting. It may very well be Thaksin's last kick. I'm waiting to see what goes down before planning my trip. I hope all goes well and Thailand has a great high season but this would further weaken Thaksin's position.
