well you can be sure that the ladies will be ready to welcome them with open arms and legs and happy to relieve the boys in blue of the hard currency-- should be a happy 5 days for all - wonder how many boys jump ship after the experience the joys of the flesh here - well its a good boost to the local economy --

JJ and Company know exactly what they are doing and they don't care :)

Good God, the scum bags rip the servicemen off left and right and they (Military) still pour in to Thailand.

Crime really does pay...

OT but someone told me that not long ago JJ got jumped and was in the hospital for a few days.

Makes one wonder if the US Navy would dare to visit other countries advertising so blatantly the R&R?

Might I just suggest that is precisely the way the US thinks about Thailand?

Your post is nonsensical. What makes you wonder? What does this make you think the US thinks about Thailand?

Can you explain what you are trying to say?

Isn't the Ronald Reagan the largest latest addition to the fleet? Would love to have a look round her.

In a former life when I was living in Mombasa I remember visiting British ships would allow visitors.

Used to be standing joke that the Nairobi nightclubs would be empty as all the Ladies were down in Mombasa each time there was a navy visit. :)

It's the second latest addition to the carrier fleet. It's CVN-76, commissoined in 2003, to replace the USS Kitty Hawk (The Shitty Kitty as they called it). The USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77) was commissioned earlier this year, and thus is the most recent. Both are nuclear powered Nimitz Class Supercarriers, so they are very similar. The US has 10 of the Nimitz class carriers in service, plus the USS Enterprise, which is it's own class.

Incidentally, there is a hel_l of a lot more people on a carrier than 4000, plus there's the cruiser and destroyer, so there must be a lot not coming ashore, more likely, bad reporting.

I see...your saying R&R just means they are here for sex with prostitutes. I don't think that is what most people associate the term "R&R" with. It literally means rest and relaxation. It's a term used outside military vernacular quite often. Of course, we all know what R&R often includes for these boys, and, as I can attest first hand, some of the girls too as the Ronald Reagan is a mixed crew. :)

This weeks PDF of the USS Ronald Reagan newpaper: http://www.ccsg7.navy.mil/09aug19.pdf There is an article in there about the first all female catapult crew. I think i see one girl, in the yellow bandana, that might be doable!! lol Sadly no warning of JJ and his jet ski thugs.

Gerd, Daffy D, and any others interested, I have emailed the public affairs officer for the carrier command strike group seven, which includes the USS Ronald Reagan. I'll let you know what I find out. I have a feeling that since 9/11 the rules may have changed. We'll see.

Gerd and Scuba or any other potential hosts,

On visits in Royal Navy Ships to foreign ports we used to run a dial a sailor scheme, find the number of the visit co-ordination and liason office and offer to host a few of the guys for a BBQ or a meal. We used to have a real problem trying to provide enough sailors, especially in the States. This is usually reciprocated with a tour of the ship in return, mind you our ships were "wet", so there was always a few gargles in the mess afterwards, but I am sure our American Brothers in Arms will show their usual generous hospitality .

It is a real treat for these guys to visit a friendly home for a few hours and have some peace and quiet and unwind for a while, rather than wandering aimlessly in the less salubrious parts of town heheh.

Good Luck

Ex Jack

Discovery did a couple of programmes on her. Magic piece of extreme engineering. Just awsome.

Scuba....I think it is 5,480 as per Wikipedia.

The one thing on her world maiden voyage was the passage through the Magellan Straits. Everyone from the Captain down was dumbstruck by the beauty of the passage.

Years ago the JFK (built 1964) came into Dublin Bay and it is difficult to get across the sheer size and scale of that ship....83k tons full up and 321m long. The Regan (built 1998) is 103k tons and 332m long! The mind boggles.

It is truly one of the worlds great ships...the American Aircraft carrier.

Well, if the entire battle group is there (the carrier as well as all the escorts), which is normally the case, then you might be seeing as many as 8-10,000 sailors enjoying their well earned liberty

Well original report said it would be the carrier plus destroyer USS Howard (320 crew compliment according to Wiki) and cruiser USS Chancerlorville (360 crew compliment according to Wiki) but who knows the rest might moor out further and have their crew ferried in. There are usually subs in the battle group as well, but I think they keep that classified. I did see a US sub outside Chalong Bay once years ago when a carrier was in port.

At tops levels, the US Government could give a rat's ass about the welfare of individual members of its military; thailand is a perceived as an ally and that relationship comes first. Never mind that the US was kicked out of Thailand after Vietnam...

Anyway, Thailand has several convenient ports and good good tourist infastructure, so its a natural R&R area. It would be nice to see the US Navy send a message of its displeasure over the jet ski incident and not return to the LOS so quickly, but lets refer to the first sentence.

So, at the end of the day, scams are a great way to make quick money and we just keep comming back for more. Why change?

FWIW, I'd like to hear the captain's pre liberty speech about renting jet skis :)

They never left Thailand anyway.

Jet skis are least important issue.

Registering displeasure maybe about Viktor Bout but then secret afcilities still needed?
