Politically Correct English

Featured Replies

There are some words in the English dictionary (OED) that are offensive or vulgar.

We do not normally use them in polite conversation, but that does not mean that they cannot be used at an informal conversational level between people you know. There is nothing wrong with that.

What we all should object to is the use of "PC" language which replaces words and /or phrases because of no real logical reason other than they may have some perceived connection with a persons skin colour, race, or because these words are supposed to be "offensive" when in fact they are not.

How could you read Shakespeare, Dickens for example, or any novel written in so called "Political Correct English"?

Use of this "PC" English is in effect the "Newspeak" that George Orwell warned us about in the political novel "1984".

I find that in many cases this "PC" is actually offensive.

In many cases one word is replaced with a meaningless phrase.

We do not need "PC English". Object by not using it, in speech or the written word.

We all enjoy the use of "puns", "rhyming slang" and "figures of speech" of the English language.

As English is the primary language of Thaivisa this post may be of interest to some.

Despite the last line, this thread is not Thai-related.
